Preparing to build belonging among all students Our new research-based approach is designed to achieve this.

Re-imagining Migration addresses one of our nation’s most challenging issues today: the ways that polarization, prejudice, and hatred between people of different identities, backgrounds, and perspectives are dividing and damaging our communities and our nation. In the current environment, children of immigrants are often targets of overlapping prejudices as both members of immigrant families and as young people of color. These factors impair their academic, social, and civic opportunities for success, and imperil the prospects for our shared democracy. Our Vision

We believe that leveraging opportunities across the educational ecosystem to build bridges among young people in classrooms and communities is one of the most compelling and effective ways to change this destructive dynamic. For Global Diversity Awareness Month, we're celebrating a group of multilingual champions in Lafayette, Indiana.

75 students at Sunnyside Intermediate, each with a different first language other than English, came together to publish Guess the Endangered Animal, a digital video book now featured in the Indiana DNR Division of Fish & Wildlife Newsletter.

Their teachers, Eliza Talamantes (one of our 2026–2027 National Belonging Ecosystem Fellows) and Kaleigh Hesher, worked alongside them every step of the way, reminding students that the languages and cultures they bring to school are not something to leave at the door, but something to build on.

📚 New free lesson for grades 5–8: Explore Your Community's Migration Stories.

Over three class periods, students become "story explorers," using structured observation and thinking routines to uncover the visible and invisible migration stories that shape their community. Aligned with the Re-Imagining Migration Learning Arc, the lesson moves students from Moving Stories to Understanding Migration to Turning to Action.

Because every community has a story. And every student has a role in discovering it.

Meet Yoli Casas...

When large numbers of newly arrived families were living in shelters three years ago, Yoli built something practical: a temporary school that picked kids up at 8 a.m. and kept them until 5 p.m., giving parents time to find jobs and giving kids their first look at what a U.S. school actually feels like.

Teachers noticed the difference. "The kids that would come, they would come more prepared to be in school than others because they were already aware."

Yoli's story is a reminder that welcoming students doesn't mean asking them to leave their culture at the door. It means preparing them, and their families, to belong.

Meet Mario Hernandez...

Mario's moving story began in Taxco de Alarcón, Guerrero, where economic need shaped his family and his community. A series of scholarships and second chances took him from Mexico City to London on his very first flight, changing the trajectory of his life.
