We are extremely excited to announce that we were recently awarded funding through the new Family Housing Acquisition and Tenancy Preservation Initiative, a part of the Boston Children’s Collaboration for Community Health. Housing is the foundation for positive futures, especially for children and families. With this funding, ABCDC will partner with the Italian Home for Children (IHC) and other local community partners to create a new Allston Brighton Family Preservation Program.

Our program will focus on early intervention, prevention, and stabilization for low-income children and families to ensure that they can remain in stable housing for the long-term. ABCDC will be initiating a series of planning activities with the network of community partners now active in Allston Brighton.

We are pleased to announce that construction just began at 40-42 Ashford Street in Allston! This project will be a Deep Energy Retrofit (DER) and will prioritize the health and wellbeing of the 12 residents who call this building home.

This Victorian-style single family home on Ashford Street in Allston has been converted into 12 units of housing. The property was purchased by ABCDC in 1992 and originally opened to house individuals impacted by the AIDS crisis. ABCDC now utilizes the property to provide safe, permanent, and deeply affordable housing to a range of people, including persons with disabilities and formerly unhoused individuals.

The DER at Ashford will last approximately 9 months and will reduce energy usage at the property by at least 50%!

We are pleased to announce that we have been awarded $240,600 through the Department of Energy Resources’ Low-Income Services Solar Program (LISSP) to support solar panels at Brian J. Honan Apartments!

This grant will support the installation of a 70 kW AC solar system, which will cut electricity costs by $25,000 each year. This award was one of 10 granted across Massachusetts to enable nonprofit organizations to install rooftop solar systems. These grant funds will reduce each organization’s electricity costs by between 70 and 100 percent, resulting in more resources for the nonprofits’ critical work.
