It's move-in season for many of our local colleges and universities.

Did you know that Harvard Medical School was once a part of the West End? It stood on Grove Street in 1849 when George Parkman, a notable Boston physician, was infamously murdered by dismemberment! Last week, we processed two additional roles of color film as part of our Charles Frani archival collection. They contain photographs of Boston's green spaces, the leveled West End, and summer scenes like this fruit truck selling watermelons for just $.50 in 1963!

We're continuing our culinary theme this week with an 1851 menu from The Revere House, a fancy hotel that stood in Bowdoin Square between 1847 and 1912. On May 18, patrons could enjoy a bowl of mock turtle soup, baked cod with a sweet red wine sauce, a side of pigeons in cases, and (what was a time a rare treat) oranges. At least you could wash it all down with a Guinness!
