Survivors Inc

Survivors Inc Survivors, Inc. SI’s goal is to educate one another, advocate for more humane welfare policies, and ultimately attain economic and social justice.

works toward economic justice, welfare rights and human rights by organizing, advocating for, educating, empowering and training low-income women. (SI) was founded by low-income students as a welfare rights project at the University of Massachusetts in the mid-1980’s, and quickly evolved into the welfare rights newspaper Survival News, still published regularly today. Formally incorporated in 1988

, SI soon expanded to include welfare office and campus organizing with a strong public education component. Locally and nationally, Survivors, Inc. is one of a very few social change organizations led by low-income women. We have maintained its grassroots base and our ability to support the increasingly powerful voices of low-income families. We have grown stronger through the years in its reputation as a leader in the welfare rights movement, locally, nationally and internationally.
