Located between China, India, and Thailand, the Myanmar is square in the middle of the world cradle of rice production. According to data from World Population Review, the people of Myanmar consume 279 kilograms of rice per person every year, which is almost 620 pounds. That's more than a pound and a half of rice per day. The small African island nation of Comoros is a close second at 275 kilograms per capita, and Gambia is third at 256. The rest of the top ten is dominated by Myanmar's regional neighbors, including Bangladesh, Vietnam, and Laos, but none of them really come close to Myanmar's love of rice.

Rice is a staple grain throughout much of the world, but in this Southeastern Asian nation it's much more than that. Here's where they eat the most.

Robert Jacob Hoopes had pleaded guilty to a charge of aggravated assault of a federal employee with a dangerous weapon. According to court documents, Hoopes threw a rock that hit an officer in the head and opened a gash over his eye during a protest last June.

Besides the prison time, U.S. District Judge Adrienne Nelson in Portland also sentenced him to three years of supervised release and ordered him to pay over $8,000 in restitution.

“Today’s message is clear — violence is not a protest," the U.S. Attorney for the District of Oregon, Scott Bradford, said in a statement. “When you cross the line and assault a federal officer, you will be prosecuted.”

Pentagon police are in gas masks and full chemical gear Thursday as a hazmat team locks down floors 2 through 5 of the massive complex.

Floors 2 through 5 in corridors 4 through 7 have been locked down, and other floors have been evacuated, three sources told CNN. The Pentagon Force Protection Agency's hazardous materials response team is on scene alongside the Arlington County Fire Department.

"The Department is executing standard protection protocols, including a shelter-in-place order for the affected area," Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell said. Systems within the Pentagon, he added, "have detected an air quality issue necessitating precautionary measures until we determine its significance."
