PILC Pirandello Italian Language Center

On Saturday mornings, students from around the Boston area convene to learn Italian in the North End. Why take our classes? All are welcome.

Our long standing program, in the heart of Boston’s North End, offers a unique combination of language learning and cultural content which stimulates linguistic growth, cultural competence and intellectual curiosity in our students. L’italiano a San Leonardo aims to help language learners of all backgrounds connect with Italian language and culture. We are very proud of our program, which boasts a

rich and successful history of forty nine years (and counting!) of Italian language instruction in the North End. Italian classes are offered on Saturdays (10:00am – 12:30am) to students ages 3 to 16 and their parents and friends. The program runs for 24 weeks following the Boston Public Schools calendar. Classes are held at Saint John’s School. Our enthusiastic staff of native Italian speakers is committed to transmitting a passion for Italian to its students. Since its inception in 1973, the mission of our program has been to present Bostonians with a realistic image of contemporary Italy and promote appreciation of its immeasurable cultural, linguistic and historical wealth. Our students have a unique opportunity to practice language in meaningful context and participate in several cultural events during the school year. The program runs a neighborhood curriculum series which, in alignment to a proficiency based model, engages students in linguistic and cultural learning tasks. Highlights of this initiative include student trips to Italian bakeries, restaurants, coffee shops, pastry shops and grocery stores. We also organize yearly trips to Italy. We are sponsored by Saint Leonard’s Church, the only surviving ethnic parish of the North End. Join our diverse community of Italian language learners and aficionados!
