Bow Seat: Creative Action for Conservation Our signature program is an annual Ocean Awareness Contest engaging tens of thousands of youth globally. Bow Seat was founded by Linda Cabot in 2011.

Bow Seat: Creative Action for Conservation is a Boston-based nonprofit that works to inspire the next generation of ocean caretakers through education and engagement with the arts, science, and advocacy. We believe that changing our world starts by inspiring and energizing the next generation of ocean caretakers to vividly imagine a better future. Our programs center the creative arts as vital tools to learn about issues impacting our environment, connect more deeply with nature, and bring communities together to care for our blue planet. Since then, Bow Seat has engaged nearly 25,000 youth from all 50 U.S. states and more than 134 countries through educational initiatives such as the Ocean Awareness Contest, the Future Blue Youth Council, and monthly webinars.

At 5,800 metres (19.000 feet) below the surface, a Nautilus team encountered a mesmerising ctenophore, its delicate feeding tentacles stretched across the ancient seafloor.

The deep ocean is full of extraordinary life. There is still SO MUCh to discover and protect.

What's real? What's not? You tell us! 

We’re surrounded by information about our planet: from the landscapes we experience to the stories we see on our screens.

But what happens when environmental information is distorted, manipulated, or designed to make us doubt what we know?

This year, we’re asking young creatives to look critically at both natural and digital landscapes and explore what environmental disinformation looks like and what we can do about it.

From misleading headlines to viral claims and distorted facts made by non experts, environmental disinformation can make it harder to understand the challenges facing the blue planet and take meaningful action.

Our youth artists took over New York Climate Week! 🌎🎨

It was incredible to see Bow Seat student artwork displayed at the historic The Explorers Club (The Explorers Club ) building, as well as Food Tank’s (Food Tank | Building Sustainable Food Systems ) event in New York City, bringing young people’s visions for our planet into a space filled with climate leaders.
From oceans and food systems to climate justice and the future we want to build, these artworks show what happens when young people are given a canvas.

Their art isn’t just something to look at. It’s a call to pay attention.

We’re so proud to see our youth artists’ work out in the world. 💙

We had so much fun last week at Shelburne Farms!

At the Climate Education Collaborative Summit at Shelburne Farms, participants explored the power of artivism, and then got to make some art of their own through a super fun workshop. 

Co-facilitated by Aimee Østensen of Shelburne Farms, in collaboration with Bow Seat, the workshop invited participants to reflect on their relationships with nature and land through a hands-on collage activity. ✂️🖼️

Because sometimes, a new way of seeing the world starts with a piece of paper, a pair of scissors, and a big idea.

Thanks to the Climate Education Collaborative for bringing educators, nonprofit leaders, community partners, and climate advocates together to imagine new possibilities for climate education.

We are thrilled to share that we have received 326 applications from 66 countries and territories for the 2027 True Blue Fellowship.
