The next member of WorldBoston’s sports diplomacy Roster is Ryan Liss ⚾️🌎

Here, we’re switching things up a little. Ryan is on the baseball team at Babson college, and serves as a prime example that you don’t need a professional title to participate in sports diplomacy. Ryan recently had the opportunity to participate in the “Bond with Kulialang” China- U.S. Youth Baseball exhibition, where he met with provincial governors and ministry officials, but most importantly connected with Chinese athletes over sport. The next member of WorldBoston’s sports diplomacy Roster is Alejandro Auffant ⚾️🌎

Originally from Puerto Rico, Alejandro has spent his whole life using sports as a way to bridge cultural divides. Currently, Alejandro works for the Boston Red Sox as their Government and Neighborhood affairs coordinator, connecting people geographically through their shared love of baseball. For Alejandro, sports have never been just about what happens on the field— they’re about the people, communities, and work that goes into making every moment possible.

WorldBoston was delighted to join our partners at Massachusetts Maritime Academy’s CAPT Cuffe Global Institute as part of the World Leadership Program 2026.
On Monday, August 17, WorldBoston President and COO Sarah Sibley met with international cadets for an engaging conversation about global citizenship, encouraging them to think beyond borders, embrace different perspectives, and consider the role they can play as future leaders in an increasingly interconnected world.
At WorldBoston, we believe meaningful dialogue and cross-cultural exchange are essential to building stronger global connections. Through maritime diplomacy, opportunities like this bring international perspectives to Massachusetts, connect future leaders across borders, and create relationships that extend far beyond the classroom.

Meet the next member of The Roster: Steve Burke 🏒🌎

Steve is a fundraising and business development professional who created Boston to Belfast Youth Empowerment, an international exchange program that uses the power of hockey to foster cross-cultural connection. Ten years later, Steve is still and avid contributor to the Boston sports diplomacy ecosystem, supporting not just youth hockey but relationships across all different levels kinds of arenas.

For the next addition to The Roster, meet Samer Abouhamad 🚲🌎

Samer is a global adventurer, motivational speaker, and storyteller who has cycled more than 75,000 kilometers across six continents and 60 countries, solo and self-supported. Samer practices sports diplomacy every time he travels to a new country, bridging cultures with only his bike. WorldBoston is happy to officially welcome the Consulate General of India, Boston. Their arrival marks an important step in the diplomatic relationship between Boston and India, and we're excited to have a role in fostering this international connection going forward.

WorldBoston was delighted to participate in the Consulate's reception aboard the beautiful INS Sudarshini, which sailed for five and a half months to be present at Sail 250!

WorldBoston was happy to host another unique cohort of Fulbright Visiting Scholars as an Anchor City.

Each academic year, WorldBoston welcomes a cohort of faculty and professionals from around the world who’ve received grants for advanced research and university lecturing from the Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program. While scholars are in Boston, WorldBoston serves as a convener for cultural enrichment activities across Eastern Massachusetts and a pathway to learning more about our community and connecting with one another.
