NESA members and emerging sculptors are invited to explore the art of subtractive carving in Hand Carving: Wood or Soft Stone with Antoinette Schultze at Sanctuary Arts in Eliot, Maine.

Over six weeks, students will learn how to block out and shape forms in wood or soft stone while developing a deeper understanding of material, balance, grain direction, gravity, and finishing techniques. Whether working in pine, alabaster, or soapstone, participants will gain hands-on experience with the process of carving and learn to trust what they see as their sculptures emerge.
