đ˘ Fair Share Funds Must Stay True to Public Education
We urge Massachusetts leaders to reassess the growing trend of diverting Fair Share revenues away from public education. Despite decades of underfunding, only 10% of these funds are allocated to public higher ed under the Governorâs Supplemental & FY26 budgetâfar from whatâs needed for long-term sustainability.
đ¨ Our Concern: While childcare is essential and deserves robust support, it is not public education. Yet, a growing share of Fair Share funds is being directed there, in conflict with the constitutional mandate for âquality public education and affordable public colleges and universities.â
â
We call for at least 25-33% of Fair Share revenues to go toward public higher ed, in line with the Board of Higher Educationâs recommendation.
đĄ âThis is about more than legal mandatesâitâs about ensuring Massachusetts invests in its future,â says Bahar Akman
