MEET YAN 🔥

Thrive Scholar. Caltech Student. NASA-level research incoming. 🚀

Yan just landed a spot in Caltech’s ultra-competitive SURF program, where she’ll help design antennas for future lunar missions 🌕😲Like… actual space stuff.

Yan is out here turning her engineering skills into cosmic impact, and we’re so here for it!

“I’m especially excited about the potential use of this antenna in future lunar missions with JPL. It’s incredible to be part of groundbreaking research that could potentially help detect early cosmology and gain more insights on the early universe,” says Yan.

✨ Scholar Spotlight: Maya ✨

Meet Maya, a first-gen college student at NotreDame, Class of 2028, double majoring in Political Science/Government and Design.

This summer, she’s interning at Dismas House, a nonprofit that supports formerly incarcerated individuals as they reintegrate into society. Through legal advocacy, criminal justice reform, and community work, Maya will gain real-world experience that will shape her future as a lawyer.

“As a pre-law student, I recognize that the best lawyers are not just those who excel in the courtroom but those who deeply understand the human experiences of the people they represent. My work will be a blend of legal advocacy, social service, and grassroots organizing, allowing me to contribute in meaningful ways.”

Maya is turning her passion into action. Let’s celebrate her journey! 🎉🙌🏼

As we wrap up National Mentorship Month, we’re celebrating 113 active mentor-mentee matches in our community! 🙌🏽 Over 367 Scholars have been paired with amazing mentors through our Mentorship and Coffee Chat programs—building relationships that shape futures. 🌱

Take Leah from Takeda, one of our lead Life Sciences Pathway sponsors, and her mentee Karen for example. From navigating the transition to college to balancing time management and relationships, Leah’s support has been invaluable. Earlier this year, Karen shared: “There were moments where I felt like I wasn’t doing enough on campus, but I was reassured by my mentor that I am doing more than enough and to enjoy my freshman year.”

Karen’s reflection shows how a mentor’s reassurance can make all the difference during the challenges of freshman year. Lisa added: “I like connecting as a ‘neutral’ adult vested in her success. Our conversations feel genuine, and I’ve learned how to offer supportive guidance using a strengths-based approach.”

Thanks to mentors like Leah, Thrive Scholars are thriving academically, personally, and professionally. 🔥
