πŸ“£Career Collaborative is excited to share that our team will be joining forces with an incredible organization, Community Work Services (CWS)! CWS has a mission very similar to that of Career Collaborative and has spent over 140 years helping low-income individuals achieve long-term sustainable employment. In a time when workforce development is more critical than ever, this combination of two respected Boston non-profits will provide even greater support to the Boston community they serve.
The entire team at Career Collaborative will join CWS to form a new division at the organization to provide Career Collaborative's job-readiness and on-going career coaching offerings to the program participants CWS serves each year.πŸ›ŽπŸŽ‰

Meet Maggie. Originally from Bulgaria, she moved to Boston back in 2016. She previously worked in recruitment, hiring for large international companies. What attracted her to Career Collaborative was its mission to help people in finding jobs they love. She was especially impressed with the efforts of helping the immigrant population as an immigrant herself. In her own words - "I know it can be difficult figuring out your career in a completely new country." According to her, every client is unique and memorable in their own way, but she manages to remember one that left an impression on her. One of her first job candidates was a civil engineer from Ethiopia who had just moved to the country. While being part of the class, he also prepared for an engineering exam. He worked two jobs, never gave up on his dreams, worked hard, and now holds an engineering position with the MBTA. This is also Maggie's advice for job seekers. "Work hard and success will come." πŸ€“

Here is our next "Meet the interns" post. Meet Marilyn, a junior at Washington and Lee University, where she studies English, Sociology, and Poverty and Human Capability Studies.
What attracted her to Career Collaborative was the mission to help unemployed and underemployed adults find quality jobs with benefits. "I think it is so important for all of us to love our jobs. After all, we will spend a ton of time at work throughout our lives" she says.
Her favorite part about the internship was getting to know all of our wonderful employment candidates! Also, the friendly work environment and lovely staff left an impression on Marilyn.
In her own words "I certainly learned a lot this summer!" According to her one of the most important things was that the smallest detail can change the course of a person's life. She started thinking about this when she learned that even a decorative line on a resume can affect whether it gets through an applicant tracking system. In the same way, small actions and steps can have a great effect on people, for better or worse. "This internship has inspired me to be more careful and pay more attention to the details in my professional and personal life" concludes Marilyn.

As part of our "Meet the interns" campaign we present to you Megan, an intern at Career Collaborative and a junior at Manchester University with a major in global health and health communications and a minor in peace studies. What attracted her to Career Collaborative was the enthusiasm and passion of both the employees and volunteers she says. One could easily see the great environment created by the staff. It was exciting to see real success stories come to life and watch the participants make progress rather quickly. Megan's favorite part was seeing the participants grow throughout the classes. They could be reserved at first but then flourish with confidence and professionalism. Megan's key point to take was how important it is to never give up. Her internship happened to be during the COVID crisis when a lot of people were struggling with finding a job. According to Megan, there is always a silver lining even when the entire nation is going through a tough time. Slowly but surely some participants would receive promotions or new essential jobs.
