SPECIAL THANKS to those who have already contributed to our Toy Drive collaboration with Hearts of Christmas for the children in my family’s hometown of Arcahaie, Haiti!!! We are getting close to reaching our goal to providing gifts for about 200 children and creating a magical holiday party for them during this season. IT IS WITH GREAT humility and joy that I present to you all Haiti Partners Initiative. Within the past year alone, so many issues have deterred and plagued the island of Ayiti and many have struggled in finding credible and effective ways to support in some way. Our goal is not to reinvent the wheel or start an additional nonprofit but instead provide good soil to plant effective seeds for productivity and be a connector to existing entities in Haiti and it’s people with resources and support that they are in need of. Our focus and mindset is on moving the country forward and contributing to stability as opposed to being overwhelmed or stuck with the obstacles that lie ahead. As there are many issues and problems in the world that affect the black diaspora, including in our own backyard, being of Haitian descent and always having a deep routed love and connection to the beautiful island of Ayiti, focusing on the productivity and advancement of Haiti has naturally always been a part of my DNA. We believe in moving in offense instead of defense. We are a continued work in progress but our goal is to focus on the following sectors including business, education, mental health, and training. We are excited for those entities who have already collaborated with us and have many upcoming ways you can join in to support during this holiday season, so please stay tuned to learn more. 11 YEARS AGO on a Tuesday like today at 4:53PM, the hearts and spirits of Haitians around the world were shocked and effected by the catastrophe that took place on the island. The aftermath would be unbearable but yet today, over a decade later we still rise as a nation and a people. We will never forget this day— the lives lost and affected, and also how we came together and survived. Ayiti Cherie— we stand with you, we love you, and will always remember. Nou pap janm bliyé.

ONE of my biggest dreams and goals was to share Merlyne’s story and message with children in Haiti and am grateful to those who played a part in making that happen this Holiday Season. This year, we partnered up with who’s doing some absolutely AMAZING work at hospitals and schools in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. It gives us complete joy that we were able to donate some Merlyne books and some other classroom goodies towards your outreach and support of students at the Labadie School. ONÈ A RESPÈ (Honor and Respect) to our ancestors. As the artist Nas would say they remind us that we have the blood of enslavement and hearts of Kings living inside of us, along with sacrificing and paving the way for us. It’s important to ask ourselves, when our descendants look back, where will they say that we stood during our time and how did we pave the way for them.........

In my recent book, I pay homage to three names listed on my shirt that paved the way for Haiti in some way or form—-
Toussaint L’Ouverture, one of our founding fathers and the head of the Haitian army who began the physical fight for freedom in Haiti, General Dessalines, another founding father who was also a general and ended the fight for freedom in Haiti, and Catherine Flon who is known for designing and creating the Haitian flag in my family’s home town of Arcahaie.
While I’m still on the journey of learning my African/Haitian history and roots, I’m deeply grateful and embedded by what I know thus far and take responsibility to paying it forward. Asè.
