Brotherhood for the Fallen Boston mourns the heartbreaking loss of Deputy Sheriff Katherine Frank of the Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Office in South Dakota, who tragically lost her life in the line of duty. We honor her courage, dedication, and ultimate sacrifice in service to her community.
Deputy Sheriff Katherine Frank succumbed to her injuries on October 12, 2026 resulting from a shooting in Sioux Falls, three days prior.
On October 9, around 7:30 pm, deputies arrived at a scene while responding to a call. Approximately 30 minutes later, shots were fired, and both Deputy Frank and the suspect were struck. Emergency aid was administered at the scene, and Deputy Frank was transported to a local hospital, where she remained in critical condition until her passing three days later.
The suspect was also treated at the scene and transported to a local hospital. He has been charged with three counts of attempted first‑degree murder of a law enforcement officer- premeditation, and three counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.
Deputy Frank had served with the Minnehaha Sheriff’s Office for nearly two and a half years and had previously served for two years with the South Dakota State Penitentiary. She was 26 years old.
We extend our deepest condolences to Deputy Frank’s family, friends, colleagues, and the entire Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Office. At just 26 years old, Deputy Frank’s life and promising career were tragically cut short, but her service and sacrifice will never be forgotten.
