Commissioner applications are now open.

The Massachusetts Asian American and Pacific Islanders Commission is seeking individuals interested in serving AAPI communities across Massachusetts and contributing to statewide public service.

Commissioners bring their time, expertise, and lived experience to the Commission's work and help inform policies and priorities affecting AAPI communities.

Applications are open through September 16, 2026.

Community investment is about more than funding individual projects—it's about building the relationships that help leaders and organizations learn from one another, tackle shared challenges, and strengthen their impact.

AAPIC's inaugural Small Grants Partnership Forum brought together FY26 Small Grants recipients, Commissioners, and supporters of the Small Grants Program from across the Commonwealth to celebrate 27 grant recipients while creating new opportunities for collaboration. The Forum demonstrated that investing in communities also means investing in the relationships that help communities thrive long after a grant is awarded.

Investing in communities means more than funding programs. It also means creating opportunities for people to connect, collaborate, and learn from one another.

That was the idea behind this year's Small Grants Partnership Forum.

With the Commission awarding more than $102,000 to 27 community-led projects, the Partnership Forum brought together FY26 grantees — nonprofit leaders, artists, advocates, small business owners, community partners, and public servants from across Massachusetts — to exchange ideas, strengthen relationships, and build new partnerships.

We are grateful to everyone who participated, and to State Senator Vanna Howard for joining us and for her continued partnership in advancing opportunities for AAPI communities across the Commonwealth.

Senator Jamie Eldridge, AAPIC Commissioners Jennifer Rubin and Gary Yu, and staff joined APIs CAN’s 10th Anniversary Summer Celebration, bringing together community leaders, advocates, and partners to celebrate 10 years of building AAPI civic power across Massachusetts.

Moments like these reflect the strength of our communities, whether they are organizations, leaders, or community members who continue to create pathways for connection, advocacy, and meaningful change.

Looking for a meaningful paid internship where you can make an impact across Massachusetts?

The Massachusetts Asian American & Pacific Islanders Commission (AAPIC) is hiring a Youth Council Coordinator Intern for the 2026–2027 program.

✨ What you'll do:
• Lead and support the AAPIC Youth Council
• Plan programs, trainings, and community initiatives
• Mentor youth leaders across Massachusetts
• Manage the Youth Council's Instagram and outreach efforts
• Gain hands-on experience in public service, advocacy, and nonprofit leadership

📍 Mostly remote (with some in-person meetings in Greater Boston)
💼 Paid internship: $26/hour (approximately 14 hours/week)
📅 September 2026 – July 2027 (with the possibility of extension)
✅ Must be a Massachusetts resident

Thank you to our Youth Council members for your leadership, vision, and dedication. We are also grateful to everyone who joined us for our Youth Council Showcase to celebrate and support the next generation of AAPI leaders.

At the showcase, Youth Council members shared projects addressing challenges they know firsthand — from expanding opportunity and strengthening community connections to improving the well-being of AAPI communities across Massachusetts. Through collaboration with educators, libraries, nonprofits, healthcare providers, and community partners, our youth leaders demonstrated the power of youth-driven solutions.

We extend our deepest thanks to State Representative Tackey Chan, Chair of the House Asian Caucus, State Senator Vanna Howard, and Representative Amy Mah Sangiolo for welcoming our Youth Council members and creating a memorable State House experience. Your support helped youth connect with civic spaces, learn about the history of the State House, and see their voices as part of the future of Massachusetts.

We thank our AAPIC Commissioners Bahara Hussaini, Christopher Huang, and Gary Yu for joining us in support of our Youth Council members. Commissioner Hussaini shared inspiring remarks during the program and engaged with youth presenters through thoughtful questions and encouragement.

Visibility is only the starting point. It has to lead somewhere.

At the AANHPI reception hosted in the Governor’s Office, Governor Maura Healey recognized the critical role of the Asian American and Pacific Islanders Commission in shaping equitable public policy and strengthening community voice in state government.

For a long time, many in our community have felt underserved or unheard. Our landmark No Longer Invisible survey showed that only 39% of AAPI residents strongly feel they belong here in Massachusetts.

We are taking the Governor’s mandate to push for real policy change seriously—but we can’t do it in a vacuum. Our first step is simply to listen. Whether it's housing, safety, or just wanting to feel included in your own neighborhood, we want to hear from you.
