Legislation filed in Massachusetts this 2023-2024 session proposes to create a statewide “flood risk protection” commission to help create a new program focused on property buyouts. Property buyouts are a key climate adaptation solution. They give vulnerable homeowners and tenants options in areas subject to chronic flooding, and areas anticipated to face worsening impacts from climate change.

The Trustees is leading efforts to secure legislative support for this effort in close coordination with nonprofit partners. Learn more: https://bit.ly/3C9dzpb

And the skills you learn are transferable to your own gardens!

If you love the gardens at Long Hill and have always wanted to get involved in caring for them, we have very good news! Long Hill Horticulturist Kristyn Stogner is looking for volunteers to help with seasonal fine gardening and general landscaping tasks in the Summer Garden and in the new gardens on the lower campus this year. This is the perfect opportunity to hone gardening skills that will be directly transferrable to your own garden at home!

Staff and volunteers of the Charles River Valley (CRV) Management Unit would like to invite you to a two-part Trails Learning Initiative over the coming months.

Part 1 will occur remotely via ZOOM the evening of March 1, 2023 from 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm. The format will be interactive with plenty of opportunities for discussion.

Part 2 will occur early spring, in person, at a property within the Charles River Valley Management Unit and will cover hands-on skills before we set out to put those skills to use on a trail project.

All are welcome to join in for Part 1! No prior trail experience is required and there is no obligation to participate in Part 2.

Come one, come all! Hamilton-Wenham Volunteer Fair - Weds. Feb. 8, 5-8 p.m. @ The Community House. Sponsored by League of Women Voters of Hamilton-Wenham, MA and The Community House. FREE and open to all. Come find your volunteer opportunity with over 40 local organizations under one roof, including The Trustees!

Most organizations need volunteers to function, including local associations, charities, elected offices, and others. Our community is stronger when our dynamic, talented, and caring folks of all ages gift even a little of their time to civic engagement. So spread the word, attend the volunteer fair in person, and/or take away a printed directory of organizations, opportunity descriptions, and contact information.

This program is supported in part by a grant from the Hamilton-Wenham Cultural Council, a local agency, which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.
