The Public Health Advocacy Institute (PHAI) is proud to announce the appointment of Dr. Matt Gaskell, MBE, as our first International Consultant on Gambling Policy.

This appointment comes as PHAI continues to press for accountability in the gambling industry, including our March 2026 lawsuit against DraftKings, FanDuel, the NFL, and Genius Sports, which alleges that the companies distribute and profit from products designed to maximize addictive betting behavior.

We’re honored to have Dr. Gaskell’s clinical and policy expertise on our team as we work to continue to bring meaningful public health regulation to the gambling industry. Welcome to the team, Matt!

The Public Health Advocacy Institute’s class action lawsuit against DraftKings will move forward to class certification and trial after a Massachusetts Superior Court denied most of DraftKings’ Motion for Summary Judgment.

This is the first false advertising case against DraftKings to survive this stage, challenging the company’s allegedly misleading $1,000 Deposit Bonus promotion. We look forward to broader discovery to understand how this marketing targeted new sports betting customers.

“Promotional schemes that entice people to wager tens of thousands of dollars raise serious consumer protection concerns,” said PHAI Executive Director Mark Gottlieb.
