Net zero by 2050 starts with a plan.

The Town of Lexington has spent more than a decade building a strong foundation for climate action. Through the Climate Leaders Municipal Decarbonization Roadmap, the Town is turning that commitment into a data-driven strategy for its municipal operations.

The roadmap covers 24 municipal buildings and the entire municipal fleet, identifying opportunities for:

⚡ Deep energy efficiency improvements
🔌 Building and fleet electrification
☀️ Solar PV installations
📉 More than 150,000 cumulative metric tons of avoided carbon emissions by 2050

The strategy also prioritizes some of Lexington’s largest sources of emissions, including Lexington High School, which accounts for more than a quarter of building emissions. A new all-electric high school, scheduled for completion by 2030, is being designed to meet net-zero standards and incorporate rooftop solar.

Lexington’s story is a great example of how communities can move from ambitious climate goals to specific projects, priorities, and timelines.

Solar can do more than power a building. It can help power a community. ☀️

PowerOptions Connect is excited to announce the first completed project through our SolarShare program: a 138-kW rooftop solar array at Martha’s Vineyard Hospital’s workforce housing.

The project is expected to provide approximately $550,000 in electricity bill assistance to income-qualified Island households over the next 25 years.

SolarShare was created to help nonprofit and public organizations benefit from on-site solar while also directing a portion of the project’s long-term value toward households facing high energy costs.

It’s a new way to think about institutional solar—one that creates energy savings today and lasting community benefit for years to come.
