Your voice matters! HeadStart matters!

Head Start parents and caregivers across the country are speaking up about the proposed changes to the Head Start standards.

More than 10,000 people have already signed NHSA’s national Parent Sign-On letter, and there is still time to bring even more family voices into the conversation.

Encourage the parents and caregivers in your program to add their names by September 30, 2026, and to say what they want decision-makers to protect.

A strong start can help shape opportunities for years to come! Did you know that in MA Community Action Agencies run HeadStart programs serving more than half of the HeadStart population in the state?

Head Start’s impact can last well beyond the early years.

Research associates Head Start with higher college enrollment, degree or certificate completion, and high school graduation, alongside lower criminal involvement and teen parenthood. It also points to estimated gains in lifetime wages for the next generation.

Head Start is a critical early education and care program that serves the whole family with its two generational approach with proven success. Did you know that in MA Community Action Agencies serve more than half of the Head Start children and are committed to continuing to do so.

On August 31, 1965, President Lyndon B. Johnson stood in the White House Rose Garden and announced the extension of Head Start.

What started as a summer pilot — one that enrolled more than 561,000 children in its first year — was expanded into year-round centers for children aged 3 and older, with continued summer programming and follow-through services like home visits and field trips for families.

Sixty-one years later, that commitment is still being honored by the hundreds of thousands of Head Start staff who show up every day for children and families across the country.
