Recovery is not a journey that individuals should have to walk alone.

For people struggling with substance use or mental-health challenges, the support of caregivers and family can make a meaningful difference.

A caring family member may be the person who notices a change in behaviour, listens without judgment, encourages treatment, helps with appointments or medication, and remains present during difficult days.

Family support does not mean excusing harmful behaviour or carrying the whole burden alone. It means responding with compassion, setting healthy boundaries, learning about the condition, and working alongside health professionals where appropriate.

When caregivers are informed and supported, they are better able to create a safe, stable, and hopeful environment for recovery. Healing is often stronger when the individual, family, and care team move forward together.

Boundaries can be an act of love. 🤍

Kindness to yourself helps you keep showing up with care, honesty, and strength. You are allowed to rest—because caregivers deserve kindness, too. Supporting a loved one is heavy work; your care matters just as much.

We were honored to visit Kenya's Ministry of Education at Jogoo House last week. Our team led by Board Secretary Dr. Musonda Simwayi, Country Director (Kenya Office) Mr. Joshua Muema, and prospective Board Member Ms. Ann Musalia—met with Ministry officials to introduce YAF and explore strategic collaborations for mental wellness in the education sector.

We are excited about the Ministry's openness to partnering with us to support the mental well-being of learners, teachers, and caregivers. At YAF, we are committed to building the partnerships necessary to create healthier learning environments for all.
