EPIC is excited to be bringing our Self-Advocacy Trainings back to classrooms this fall!

EPIC is offering FREE in-school self-advocacy training for public high school students with disabilities throughout Massachusetts, thanks to a generous grant. With more than 10 years of experience partnering with districts such as Boston Public Schools, Malden Public Schools, and Cambridge Public Schools, we are excited to expand this opportunity to more classrooms.

Participating schools will receive two 45-minute sessions per participating classroom, tailored to your students. Topics include self-advocacy, self-exploration, disability identity, asking for help, and communication styles.

If you are interested in bringing this free training to your students, reach out to Ethan Linsky, EPIC Assistant Director, at [email protected] to learn more and schedule your sessions.

Please note: these are in-school trainings provided to classes of students with disabilities. Individual students cannot register for a session. If you’re a youth or parent interested in these sessions, we encourage you to share this information with your teachers.

Earlier this month, the Worcester Service Warriors rolled up their sleeves to help out at the Community Harvest Project. Warriors spent the morning cleaning and packing lettuce and cabbage to deliver to local food pantries and partner organizations, providing healthy meals for the community. In total, the Warriors cleaned and packed 592lbs of lettuce and cabbage, which will provide 5,328 servings. Way to go, Warriors!

This past Saturday, the Boston Service Warriors had a great day of hands-on learning and began planning their legacy project. In the morning, Warriors worked with the MBTA Mobility Center to learn more about using the MBTA, accessibility information, trip planning, and more. Warriors then got to put the lessons into action by going to South Station and taking the train. It was a great morning of travel training and gaining new skills for the future.

In the afternoon, Warriors began to think about their year-long legacy project and what they want to do to make a lasting difference in the City of Boston. Stay tuned to learn more about what these Warriors are planning!

In August, the Boston Service Warriors visited our 2026 Boston Community Leadership Award Honorees and long-time service partners, Eastie Farm, for an EPIC day of service. Warriors spent the day helping out and learning about the importance of community farming. It was an EPIC day of education, rolling up our sleeves, and getting dirty!

Yesterday was Primary Election Day. At EPIC, we believe civic engagement is an important part of leadership and life. Young leaders with disabilities need to understand local government and how to use their leadership and voice to create change.

For this reason, each year the Boston and Worcester Service Warriors take part in a Political Literacy Leadership Development Day. Last month, both teams of Warriors visited their respective city halls in Worcester and Boston. They met with local politicians, registered or pre-registered to vote, learned about their rights as voters with disabilities and how to ensure they receive the accommodations they need to vote, and met with members of the Disability Commission and took part in mock city council meetings. These were great days for Service Warriors to learn how they can play a role in local government and make their voices heard.

Every Warrior who has come through EPIC uses this information to best suit their goals. There are EPIC Alums who work at the state house, sit on their city or town’s Disability Commission, volunteer as poll workers, or show up at their polling place for every election to cast their ballot. Warriors can practice what they learn during Political Literacy Day at EPIC in many ways, and we can’t wait to see how current Warriors put these practices into their own lives.
