☀️ Summer Highlights: Creativity, Community, and Celebration

This summer gave our NextGen Explorers many ways to learn, create, reflect, and celebrate together.

Students documented their experiences through journaling and turned plain white T-shirts into wearable works of art. Library Week encouraged reading, storytelling, and imagination, while Superhero Day invited every student to celebrate their own strengths. We also made time to recognize birthdays and the joy each young person brings to our community.

A visit to The Embrace on Boston Common connected our students with an important part of Boston’s history. The memorial honors the love and leadership of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Coretta Scott King and represents the values of love, equity, and justice.

These moments remind us that summer learning is also about self-expression, belonging, friendship, and discovering the community around us.

🔬 Summer Highlights: Science in Motion

This summer, our NextGen Explorers took learning beyond the classroom.

Students investigated hands-on exhibits at the Museum of Science, explored plants and the natural world at the botanical garden, and participated in High Touch High Tech activities focused on forensic science.

From examining evidence to testing ideas and making observations, our young investigators practiced critical thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork. These experiences encouraged students to ask questions, try unfamiliar activities, and discover how science connects to the world around them.

Summer learning becomes even more meaningful when young people can see, touch, and experience the possibilities. 🚀🌱

💦 Summer Highlights: Making a Splash

Our NextGen Explorers spent the summer building confidence, staying active, and making memories together through swimming, splash-pad fun, sailing, and a ride on the Swan Boats.

We are grateful to Piers Park Sailing, the Melnea A. Cass Recreational Complex, and the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation for helping make these experiences possible.

Each outing gave our young people an opportunity to try something new, strengthen friendships, and experience the joy of summer in Boston. Thank you to our partners, staff, and families for making every adventure meaningful. ⛵☀️

A night of connection, celebration, and women making an impact, on and off the field. ⚾️✨

We had an incredible time at Women’s Night at Fenway Park, celebrating the women who lead, inspire, and strengthen our communities.

Thank you to Women’s Foundation of Massachusetts, Bank of America, and the Red Sox Foundation for bringing us together for such a memorable evening. We’re grateful to be part of a community that continues to uplift women and create space for meaningful connection.

As Disability Pride Month comes to a close, the work of access, inclusion, and belonging continues.

Inclusive communities are built through everyday moments: playing together, learning from one another, making space, and helping each child feel like they belong.

Through Higher Ground Boston’s afterschool and summer programs, young people build friendships across different backgrounds, abilities, and experiences. These relationships help shape more caring, connected, and diverse communities.

Inclusion does not end when the month does. It grows when we keep making room for each other.

On July 26, we recognize the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act, signed into law in 1990. The ADA is a landmark civil rights law that helped advance access, inclusion, and legal protections for people with disabilities.

Accessibility is not just about compliance. It is about dignity, participation, and making sure people are not excluded from the spaces, programs, and opportunities they deserve.

At Higher Ground Boston, we believe stronger communities are built when access is part of the foundation.
