Higher Ground Boston recently participated in Family Night at Higginson Lewis School, connecting families with resources, information, and support.

The event brought together students, caregivers, community organizations, and partners for an evening focused on engagement and opportunity. Families had access to community resources, meals, and take-home goodie bags while learning more about available programs and services.

Events like these help strengthen community connections and ensure families know where to turn for support.

Community impact grows through collaboration, creativity, and investment in future generations.

During Small Business Week, Higher Ground Boston reflected on the importance of supporting small businesses, young entrepreneurs, and community-driven opportunity across Boston neighborhoods.

Partnerships between nonprofits, educators, small businesses, and public leaders help create stronger pathways for youth, families, and local communities.

Every future business owner, creator, and innovator starts somewhere.

Community is built through everyday moments of care, creativity, and connection.

From shared meals to creative self-expression, small moments of joy help create welcoming environments where young people can feel comfortable, supported, and seen.

Sometimes it is the colorful thermos decorated with rhinestones and creativity.
Sometimes it is a thoughtfully packed lunch.
Sometimes it is simply sharing a smile together in the classroom.

The little things matter, too.

Higher Ground Boston was proud to attend the Massachusetts State House in support of the ENOUGH Act (S 3022 / H 5187), legislation focused on directing resources into historically underinvested communities across the Commonwealth.

The proposed legislation aims to reduce poverty, expand opportunity, and strengthen long-term outcomes in community health, education, and economic mobility.

Thank you to the legislators, advocates, nonprofit leaders, and community partners continuing this work across Massachusetts.

Big ideas start early. 💡

Students recently showcased their creativity through hands-on entrepreneurship activities, developing original business ideas, products, branding, and presentations.

Some of the student-created businesses included:

• “Beautiful Art” featuring original artwork and handmade designs
• “Juicy Lemonade” with creative product concepts and branding
• “Nailies” (pronounced “NAAAILLLSSS!”) featuring handmade paper nail creations
• “Whishy Squishy,” a sensory-inspired blind box experience complete with handmade mini products, scented packaging, and imaginative customer experience details
• “ALL BEYOND,” a student business selling Takis, phone cases, and flowers

From branding and product development to presentation skills and teamwork, students explored entrepreneurship through creativity, collaboration, and innovation.

We are continually inspired by the confidence and imagination our young people bring to every project.

This coalition brings together organizations like the Boston Teachers Union, Boston Climate Action Network, and Mass Education Justice Alliance, all working toward stronger schools and better outcomes for students.

Real change happens through collaboration, and we’re proud to stand alongside partners committed to building a better future for Boston’s students.

Curiosity leads the way.

Our students are exploring, building, and problem-solving through hands-on DEILab activities. Whether working with blocks or experimenting with new ideas, they are developing critical thinking skills that will stay with them far beyond the classroom.

This is how innovation begins.
