Strategies for Children is celebrating 25 years of leading the way towards meaningful change in early childhood systems across Massachusetts by connecting people to people, people to policy, and people to power. In April, we launched a series of 9:30 Calls reflecting on our history and acknowledging the people behind SFC's longevity and impact. We got to hear from members of our board of directors, former staff and interns (2001-2026). To wrap up the series, we'll hear from the current SFC team. Amy O'Leary, Executive Director, Titus DosRemedios, Deputy Director, Marisa Fear, Director of Policy, Marge Mahoney, Director of Finance and Operations, Diagneris Garcia, Director of Communications, Jayleese LeBlanc, Program Assistant, Shaakira Parker, Fellow, Ann Kauffman, Fellowship Coordinator, Alyssa Haywoode, Blogger, Tanya Lazar, Graphic Designer and Website Developer.

The Bright Beginnings Breakthrough (B3) Fund, an initiative of the Commonwealth Children's Fund, launched its inaugural application round in fall 2025 to support bold ideas reimagining early childhood services for Massachusetts families with children ages 0–5. Over 100 organizations from across the Commonwealth answered the call and submitted their ideas. Finalists refined their concepts through a three-month Accelerator over the winter, and we are now proud to announce the projects selected for multi-year funding to implement ideas that could shape the field's future.
WEDNESDAY, June 3
🎤︎ Sharing the Mic(rophone) is a recurring segment on The 9:30 Call dedicated to amplifying the voices of those working with children and families every day. The 9:30 Call began in March 2020 as a platform to facilitate vital, real-time feedback loops among educators, advocates, funders, and policymakers. Over the past 6 years, we have built connections across the Commonwealth, and a community has emerged committed to continuous learning, understanding, and growth. There is no scheduled guest speaker, so we have plenty of time for you to share your insights, questions, and updates to help ensure policy decisions are grounded in the real, lived experiences of educators, providers, and families. Everyone is welcome!
THURSDAY, June 4
Join us for our latest dissertation presentation with kate warren barnes, “It Only Takes One Time, and They Will Open a File On You,” exploring what Black mothers teach us about navigating Boston’s early childhood ecosystem. This talk speaks directly to early educators and cross sector partners across Massachusetts and beyond, offering critical insights into how mandated reporting, systemic inequities, and surveillance shape family decision making. Grounded in Black mothers’ lived experiences, it will challenge us to reflect on our roles within these systems and consider more relational, equity centered approaches that support children and families.
How to join these calls? Visit www.strategiesforchildren.org/930call/, click the orange registration button, and complete the form. You will receive an email with the Zoom link. We use the same Zoom link for all 9:30 calls.
