GREAT NEWS FOR THE LIMB LOSS & LIMB DIFFERENCE COMMUNITY!

H.4549, “An Act to improve outcomes for persons with limb loss and limb difference,” is being polled favorably by the Massachusetts House Committee on Ways & Means!

This is an important step forward, and we are hopeful the bill will move through the House and continue on to the Senate. But our work isn’t finished yet.

We need Massachusetts advocates to take one final action step: contact members of the House and Senate Ways & Means Committees and let them know you support H.4549.

Call to Action!

Here’s latest news with House Bill 4549 and Senate Bill 811, the Massachusetts So Every BODY Can Move bills.

As we reported back in December, both bills were approved by the Health Care Financing Committee and moved to the House Ways & Means Committee and Senate Ways & Means Committees. While the bills are under review, the CHIA group is conducting a fiscal analysis to estimate how much money it is likely to cost insurers and the state to implement coverage for prosthetic and orthotic devices designed for physical activities and showering/bathing. The good news is that the CHIA group reached out to the Massachusetts Society of Orthotics and Prosthetics (MSOP) and national So Every BODY Can Move teams directly to get information on how prosthetic and orthotic care is provided, the likely number of lives impacted, and information on how often these devices would need to be replaced. We are hoping that the CHIA committee report will come out soon and support passage of the bill out of the Ways & Means Committees.

Members of the MSOP team along with our shining star Jenny and her mom Kara made the rounds at the State House advocating for the passage of H4549 and S836 - An Act to improve outcomes for persons with limb loss and limb difference. Our bill will require commercial insurers to provide access to prosthetic and orthotic devices designed to support physical activity. We belive movement is medicine and physical activity is a right! SO EVERYBODY CAN MOVE MASSACHUSETTS!

Good afternoon, Massachusetts Advocates,

We hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday. We wanted to follow up and let you know the great news that both House Bill 4549 and Senate Bill 811, the Massachusetts So Every BODY Can Move bills, have been approved by the Health Care Financing Committee and moved to the next committee – Ways & Means. This is great timing and shows a clear positive trend! The Ways & Means committee is likely one of the most important steps in this process. A group of us will be hosting strategic meetings at the State House in early February and will request you to fill out our online campaign and reach out to your legislators at that time.
