Giving Community ✨ A youth group attending Service Camp at Boston's Trinity Church spent an afternoon assembling backpacks filled with supplies for young immigrants to take to school this fall. Each backpack also included a personalized note of welcome and encouragement. As they worked on the project, IINE Boston Volunteer Coordinator Evan shared more about IINE's work and then screened several Suitcase Stories® performances, so the campers could better understand the experiences and journeys of the immigrants they were helping. Kickstart Your Career in Healthcare 🩺 Join our FREE 10-week Pre-CNA program to help you prepare for a career as a certified nursing assistant (CNA)! Students will learn healthcare vocabulary, digital literacy, and receive assistance to enroll in a CNA training program and find a job in the healthcare industry. Students will also be provided with a Chromebook. The classes will run from September 14 - December 3, 2026.

Safe Drivers 🚙 🛞 Ten refugee and immigrant students attended Driver’s Ed classes at our Manchester office! They learned about the process of applying for their driver’s licenses, the basics of driving, the importance of insurance, what to do following an accident, and best practices for various road-related scenarios. Learning to drive is crucial for refugees and immigrants in New Hampshire, where there is limited transportation. Being able to drive makes it easier for them to go to work, attend school, visit the doctor, and more.

TPS: what it means and why losing it is so scary for our immigrant neighbors 📣 The recent Supreme Court ruling that allowed the termination of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haiti and Syria has left many among us vulnerable, and many others confused. We've heard concerned community members ask:

❔ What is TPS?

❔ How does someone get this immigration status?

❔ And how does it differ from other statuses?

Since its creation, TPS has provided a lifeline for well over one million people from countries facing crises, from civil war in Syria to earthquakes and political violence in Haiti and the Russian invasion of Ukraine. TPS was a compromise for legislators, who may have opposed creating a new pathway to citizenship, but believed that people should not be returned to a country where they face risks to their safety. More than just numbers 💗 Amda always dreamed of helping others. She completed medical school in Haiti, only to be forced to flee when gangs destroyed her family's home. In Massachusetts, Amda rebuilt her life from scratch. She worked her way back into healthcare and today is a medical assistant at a community health center. Now Amda and hundreds of thousands of fellow Haitians in the U.S. have been forced into instability once again. Despite following U.S. laws, working hard to support their families, and contributing to our communities, they are being targeted by our federal government. In response IINE has launched a TPS Support Initiative to provide compassionate, trauma-informed support. Our staff are currently reaching out to impacted Haitian families in our care to provide:

⚖️ Legal consultations to help our Haitian community members understand their options

👪🏾 Family preparedness training, so parents have a plan in place if the worst happens and they are separated from their children

🥫Emergency support, including housing and food

Different Lives, Same Hopes ✨ This International Youth Day, we highlight Yohana, a refugee youth from the Democratic Republic of the Congo who overcame incredible challenges to arrive in the U.S., get a job, attain a higher education, and pursue his dreams. While Yohana’s experience is unique to his origins and journey, he shares many of the same hopes as others his age. Across countries and communities, young people seek opportunity, meaningful participation, decent work, and quality education. They also demonstrate incredible resilience and leadership.

“We didn't do anything wrong. We work, we serve USA,” shared W., a Haitian immigrant who had Temporary Protected Status (TPS). He arrived in the U.S. about two years ago with TPS to support his family. A former engineer and a pastor in Haiti, W. learned English quickly and got a job at a local high school. Now he is one of hundreds of thousands who fear deportation after the Supreme Court allowed the Trump administration to end TPS for Haiti and Syria. Haitian and Syrian TPS holders are being forced to return to countries the U.S. has deemed unsafe for travel. Many have called the U.S. home for years, and contribute greatly to our communities.
