What a Saturday! 🌱 65 of us got together in Lawrence to plant trees and harvest in the gardens, with tired bodies and full bellies at the end. This was the big finale to our summer of climate and environmental education, and our Youth Ambassadors helped run the whole show.

Huge thanks to the Merrimack Valley Interfaith Team, who’ve been in this with us all summer, to Groundwork Lawrence for the tree know-how, and to Community Christian Church and the Hispanic Access Foundation for the resources to make it possible.

Rescheduled due to weather!

🌳 Hope Takes Root is now on Saturday, October 3, 10 AM–2 PM at Costello Park in Lawrence. Come plant trees, harvest vegetables, share a free lunch, and care for creation with neighbors from across the city.

No experience needed, all ages welcome, and our partners at Groundwork Lawrence will bring the gloves and tools. Just bring clothes to work in, and register ahead of time so we know you're coming!

Earlier this month, more than 50 people gathered at Campagnone Common in Lawrence for a ceremonial tree planting, among them 17 members of the clergy and our partners at the Merrimack Valley Interfaith Team.

It was the first of two gatherings we are hosting this fall as part of Trees of Life, our citywide initiative in Lawrence, which has brought environmental education to more than 500 people this year.

This Saturday, weather permitting, we'll gather again on a much larger scale, at "Hope Takes Root," our community tree-planting celebration. Visit the 'events' page on our website for more information.

The good news is that it isn't too late. Federal incentives for solar arrays on houses of worship are still available. But the window is closing, and you have to act fast.

This summer was the hottest ever recorded in the United States, with temperatures averaging 74.4°F from June through August. By September 1, drought had spread across nearly 60% of the country.

The numbers don't capture who carries the heaviest burdens of extreme heat. It falls hardest on the neighbors with the least shade, the oldest buildings, and the fewest resources to cool down. It's not felt evenly. Climate change is a justice issue.

The need for change is urgent, and it's going to take all of us to make a difference. This fall, we invite you to join us as we pray, act, and mobilize for climate action and environmental justice.
