Myles Webster was sentenced to 60 years to life for injuring a policeman in self-defence. The opportunities in life in America when you are of coloured ethnicity are lacking inequality when compared to white American citizens. Racism is a continuous issue that has been prevalent in American history and nationally. Myles' case and situation emphasise this issue and problem that is still relevant in

today’s society. Racism is often because people are not educated or given opportunities to be educated in our society on the topic. This lack of education on the topic has proven to lead to less opportunity for those from different backgrounds and nationalities in a white society. Myles's current situation is a direct product of an unjust system as he was not given an equal opportunity to protect his rights due to his black Haitian background. Currently, American jails are overcrowded with predominately African American and Hispanic American citizens. Is this because people like Myles do not have the resources and opportunities to defend themselves in a court of law? This social inequality and abuse of human rights is the way white supremacy maintains social dominance through the power of the police force and therefore has become the social norm, allowing racism to continue in our modern world. Myles's circumstances have led to an unfair and unjust journey in life. This is because America's social justice system is causing people from different backgrounds and low socio-economic areas to suffer abuse, neglect, and emotional trauma. Myles story is a story of survival as a young boy who had no help in a circumstance that was out of his control. If you were being brutally attacked by someone would you defend yourself? If this had happened to an everyday person, it would have been seen as self-defence. However, it was a white policeman's words against a young black Haitian boy, and therefore, in the world we live in, the hierarchy of the unjust prevailed. Although no one should turn to crime or violence, this was an act of self-defence and therefore should not have been overlooked. Little did Myles know that his decisions and actions on this day would cause a lifetime of unjust oppression. Statistics have proven that social dominance and unequal power and sovereignty has been witnessed within the American justice system for many years. This is mostly due to inequality toward people based on race, background, wealth, and power within the community. In this situation, it appeared to show that the lives of police officers in the USA are considered more valuable than those who are from different backgrounds, races, and are from a lower socio-economic perspective. The sentencing of George Floyd also reflected a situation that was close to Myles Webster's, only he remained alive and so did the officer. The sentence was also carried out before this issue came to light in the wider community and therefore his sentence was overlooked and buried. The case in point of George Floyd led to a social uproar and social movement of Black Lives Matter, which not only spread through America but also the world. This is something Myles was never given in his circumstances and is why this story is prevalent in political issues in America's justice system and society. Racism and human rights are something that comes hand in hand and is still something that is causing inequality within everyday peoples lives. This connects to our history and our future and not a lot has changed since Martin Luther King first had a dream in 1960s. This story leads to how white superiority is still dominant in the American police force and is a driving force in inequality toward people of different races and colour. The underprivileged ethnic citizens of America often fall into cases with police officers in an unjust light due to their minorities and power. Myles story demonstrates a history of rehabilitation and true sorrow around the harm caused by these unfortunate events that occur still to the day. The justice system was created to help others in need but is it truly helping everyone? Are they helping those from underprivileged backgrounds and less power? Do we need to make changes to this political issue within our world? How can we help to rehabilitate those in need? Overall society determines these choices and people are entitled to be given opportunities in these circumstances. Although Myles was not given a chance this can still be realised. Myles has taken into consideration his actions and has not made blame on others for this unfortunate sentence and day however he has served more than his time. Therefore he should be given the opportunity to appeal for his freedom. He deserves a second chance when the sentence was due to self-defence. Myles has spent 10 years behind bars for his actions and more than two years in solitary confinement and this is abnormal circumstances especially when this was not an act of first-degree murder. Myles positive attitude upon release from solitary confinement led him to share his story make others aware of this issue in society and make change to peoples lives in these circumstances. His newfound mission in life is to help others reflect on how we can make a change and live in a world that celebrates equality and others differences. This reflects the true nature of who he is today rather than the young 22-year-old boy that the media and justice system portrayed him as. Myles decision to make a change in our society on this topic led him to create The Real Foundation to help combat and influence peoples life choices in America. His agenda and vision were to try to prevent them from following the social constructs which place people in situations that could lead them to prison. All we ask is for the system to reflect the constitution of America which all people have the right to equality and freedom. Myles sentence clearly demonstrates a biased racist, white supremacist attitude of society and the judicial system that has extreme punishment to those from other backgrounds and races. Myles didn’t deserve to be locked up for 50 more years when he was not found guilty of murder and should have been given a lesser sentence. James Parker was given 25 years to life for the murder of 2 Dartmouth professors back in 2001. Why was Myles given a sentence that is harsher in punishment when he did not murder a person? Was it just and did he deserve this suffering? Please help us to spread the word and for Chris Sununu, the Governor of New Hampshire, to review Myles' sentence and take action on his appeal. Sending love and light ❤
