The breaker boys of Pennsylvania's coal region started working the mines as young as eight years old. They sat for hours sorting coal with their bare hands, breathing black dust. Julia Wolfe listened to their stories and built Anthracite Fields around them. Chorus pro Musica performs it at the Cutler Majestic on November 14th. At the turn of the twentieth century, the anthracite fields of Pennsylvania powered a nation. The miners and breaker boys who worked them lost their health, their lungs, and often their lives. Composer Julia Wolfe went to find them. Chorus pro Musica and the Bang on a Can All-Stars perform her Pulitzer Prize-winning Anthracite Fields at the Cutler Majestic Theatre on November 14th.
