Sometimes you just need to take a second to breathe..and sing Adele and Mary J. Blige to a horse named Elvis and a donkey named Wh***ey 🐎

This past Friday, The Transformational Prison Project went to the Moonlight Ranch in Tyngsboro with our nature guide, Big T.

Oftentimes, while our staff are in the frontlines going into facilities, meeting with our community and sitting in the same spaces they sat in themselves years ago, we have our own internal battles we’re facing.
 Our wellness days are a way to pour into ourselves in order to keep pouring into others and to give us the time and opportunity to reconnect as staff and TPP family.

This particular wellness day we spent with nature and animals. Sometimes the sounds of birds chirping and horses trotting gives us a peace that we can’t get in a city with roaring car engines and blinding siren lights. We took some time to sit in space, drink mullet tea, eat together, sit in circle with one another and journal across the ranch. 🐓

A big thank you to Big T, the animals and our hosts, Laura, Kate and Shauna for holding us down at Moonlight Ranch and bringing a true aura of peace to our Friday morning.

Last Friday, TPP was just one of the 120+ organizations that had the honor of attending UTEC’s 2026 New England Streetworker Conference, with the theme of ‘Community is the Strategy,’ 🫂

And we felt nothing short of that.

A room full of educators, social workers, leaders, activists and more who all share the empathy and strength to serve the communities who are often forgotten about or walked out on.

A room full of people who are doing the work on the frontlines, sharing knowledge to help us push ourselves and what we believe in further.

Thank you, UTEC, again for holding space for all of us to get together every year. We all know this work isn’t easy, but it’s easier when we are together 🧡🤞

Happy Second Year Home, Hamza 🎉🎊!

After serving 15 years in prison, Hamza was released on September 20th, 2024.

In two years, Hamza has purchased his first car, rented his first home, stepped up as the Transformational Prison Project’s policy and advocacy coordinator and continued his education for his master’s degree at Harvard’s Divinity School on a Dean’s Fellowship, (with the goal of obtaining a law degree soon after).

Hamza is a reflection of what can happen when second chances, faith and education are brought together, and we couldn’t be more proud and happy he’s with us ☺️

It is the first day of September 🍎🍂: Leaves are beginning to fall and change color, flowers will bloom and our coffees are drowning in pumpkin and cinnamon flavors.

Seasons change and so do we. We’re constantly growing, evolving and learning something new about ourselves and the world. So, with that being said,

Join us in screaming Happy Birthday to one of our favs, Twin 🤩🥳!

There may never be enough words to capture how we feel about Jean, but we can try. In addition to being one of the funniest people we know, he’s also humble, honest and trustworthy. There’s no question that he’ll always answer a phone call or show up in space, and that he loves the work that he does.

It hasn’t even been two years since he’s been home, but to us, it feels like a lifetime.

Happy First Year Anniversary Home, Wally! 🎊  After 17 years in prison, Wally came home to us on August 13, 2025.

Wally the Walrus is like a big teddy bear, dressed up as Santa Claus with a bible in one hand and a foot long sandwich in the other.

Ever since he came out and every time he speaks, there’s a warm, magnetic energy that radiates around him onto others. Within any given conversation with Wally, you’ll rarely leave without a laugh or deep thought.

And just within one year, he shows his discipline and transformation: He got his first full time job at the Transformational Prison Project as a Program Development Coordinator, went on his first flight to NOLA and, at this moment, is moving into his first apartment!  He is an embodiment of what second chances look like and we’re beyond grateful to have him a part of the family.

We love you, Wally! Happy FIRST Year Home and many more to come ☺️💙💛

And the night continued..✨

On August 1st, we opened the doors to the Cyclorama for nearly 300 guests, most who never got the chance to experience prom because they were incarcerated at a young age. But we changed that, and got a chance to celebrate community, freedom and second chances under one roof.
