John Brett Cahill was a devoted husband, father, brother and friend whose humor, curiosity and love of travel left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him. He was killed aboard United Airlines Flight 175 on September 11, 2001.

Today, John’s sister shares his story with a generation that was not yet alive on 9/11, leaving students with three meaningful lessons: make September 11 a day of service, live safely but never in fear and, whenever you see a beautiful sunset, say hello to John.

On Friday, Massachusetts came together to honor and remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, marking 25 years since that tragic day. 🇺🇸

From the Reading of the Names at the State House to the Madeline “Amy” Sweeney Award for Civilian Bravery and the family wreath-laying at the Boston Public Garden, the day was filled with moments of remembrance, reflection, and unity.

Thank you to everyone who joined us in ensuring their lives and legacies are never forgotten.

Tomorrow, Massachusetts Remembers: United We Stand.

Join the Massachusetts 9/11 Fund as we come together to commemorate the 25th anniversary of September 11 and honor the lives lost, the families who carry their memories, and the courage and resilience shown in the years since.

The day’s remembrance will include the Reading of the Names, the Madeline “Amy” Sweeney Award for Civilian Bravery, and the family wreath-laying ceremony.

Tomorrow, join the American Heritage Museum for a special commemoration marking the 25th anniversary of September 11.

Survivor Joyce Ng will share her firsthand account of escaping 3 World Trade Center and donate a rare Ground Zero artifact to the museum’s permanent collection. The program will also include a moment of silence, survivor remarks, a Q&A and a book signing.

Each person lost on September 11 lived a unique life filled with dreams, passions, and moments shared with those who knew them best. As we remember them, we honor not only the tragedy of that day, but the lives they lived, the love they gave, and the legacies that continue through their families and communities.
