At 17 years old, Matthew is just about the biggest Boston sports fan you can meet. In between spending time at ball parks and stadiums, he has started broadcasting for Miracle League Baseball, and hopes to go into sports broadcasting or marketing after college.

At 17, having the ability to feel comfortable and independent in your own bathroom matters. It's about more than accessibility. It's about giving a young person the opportunity to do something as ordinary as taking a shower with a little more confidence and a little less assistance.

That is why we were thrilled to help Matthew and his family renovate his bathroom and shower. The goal was simple but incredibly important: to make it easier for him to safely access the shower with his shower chair while creating a space that provides him with more privacy, independence, and dignity as he gets older.

Matthew's father shared what this means to Matthew and the family.

"We are beyond grateful for the financial support that the Matt Brown Foundation eagerly offered to upgrade Matt's accessible bathroom. Rolling in and out of the shower with ease and comfort is a hugely positive differentiator in Matt's life today that boosts his self-confidence.

For the last five years, the highlight of August has always been our participation in the Falmouth Road Race. That feeling continued this year as we were so grateful to receive bibs from the Numbers for Non Profits group again.

We can’t thank our dedicated runners enough for their fundraising efforts and the way they took on the historic 7 mile race with pride and joy in support of our mission to help individuals battling paralysis.

On Monday, July 13, we returned to Walpole Country Club for the Sixth Annual Matt Brown Foundation Golf Tournament.

With another sold out field of golfers and an entire community of sponsors, volunteers, and donors behind us, we are happy to announce that over $85,000 was raised during this year's tournament that'll go directly into helping those who are battling paralysis.

On Sunday, June 7th we hosted our first annual Run, Walk, and Roll 5K event.

Simply put, we were blown away.

The incredible turnout and enthusiasm that was felt throughout the day far exceeded anything we could’ve imagined when we began planning this event months ago. Seeing so many participants, volunteers, families, and supporters come together in support of our mission made for an unforgettable day and one that we are incredibly grateful for.

Thank you to our incredible sponsors who stepped up and contributed to make this event the success that it was. Thank you Boston Bruins Foundation College Hype Permobil Foundation Plain Silver Laundry Austin Reardon Memorial Scholarship Foundation , Construction Industries of Mass, and Mike McDonald. In total, we were able to raise over $25,000 that will go to our grant program as we continue to try and help those battling paralysis.

To our participants, your participation means more than just crossing the finish line. It helps further our mission and allows us to do what we do. It also reminds us of the amazing community that surrounds us.

On January 26, 2025, Ryan was ejected from the passenger seat of a side by side ATV while enjoying a weekend getaway in Florida. Following the crash, Ryan was airlifted to Gulf Coast Medical Center in Fort Myers, where he spent 30 days in the ICU fighting for his life. On February 25, he was transferred to Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, where he continued his recovery and was ultimately discharged on September 10.

As a result of the accident, Ryan sustained an incomplete spinal cord injury at the C5/C6 level and a collapsed lung. This life-altering event changed the trajectory of his life, but it did not diminish his spirit.

Since being discharged, Ryan moved from VT to Massachusetts in order to access the life saving medical care of MGH and the SCI focused exercise based therapy at Journey Forward.

Over the winter, Ryan battled setbacks in the form of a stage 4 wound that required surgery, UTIs, and bladder stones. To help alleviate some of what Ryan was going through, the foundation was happy to fulfill a grant request for a new, altering air pressure mattress that has a lateral turning function. This lateral turning function will allow Ryan to no longer have to be turned every two hours throughout the night.

The foundation also elected to go with a twin size homestyle bed add-on, turning his old metal hospital bed into a king-size bed where Ryan can share that space with his girlfriend and have the joy of snuggling with his dog again.

This grant has meant Ryan has been able to regain privacy, the entire family is getting a better and more restful night sleep, and a sense on normalcy has returned to his bedroom.

It was months in the making but Marathon weekend has finally arrived! On Friday, Matt got to join , , and on the Run For Impact panel at the expo to discuss what it means to be involved in the Boston Marathon presented by Bank of America as a nonprofit.

After that, Matt and Lucas joined three other runners involved in the Bank of America campaign on the field at Fenway Park as the were highlighting the Boston Marathon!

It wouldn’t be Marathon weekend without the BAA 5K on Saturday morning. Matt and Lucas were able to get out there with 10,000 other participants, running through Boston’s Back Bay neighborhood, finishing on Boylston Street at the marathon finish line!

Throughout the weekend the Matt Brown Foundation team made stops in at the expo to pick up their bibs and take in the everything the expo had to offer.

We are so excited for Marathon Monday and can’t thank everyone enough for their support that they have shown over the last couple of months. One more sleep stands between us and the finish line!

With the Boston Marathon presented by Bank of America less than a week away, meet Todd. Todd suffered a spinal cord injury at the T12 level as a result of a motor vehicle accident in 2021. After the accident, Todd continued carpentry work at his home before chronic neuropathic pain and pressure sores left him bedridden.

Desperate to find help, Todd underwent testing with the RT300 FES Bike and doctors were impressed by the response after just one visit, citing use of the equipment could result in significant improvement to the gluteal and leg muscles, which would reduce the likelihood of persistent pressure sores and enhance residual leg function and reduction in chronic neuropathic pain.

Todd received his own RT300 FES Bike in March through the foundation grant program and has a smile back on his face.

The foundation marathon team has spent the last couple of months training and fundraising to make a grant like this happen. The same goes to our incredible sponsors at College Hype, Kaloutas & Co, Carroll Advertising and The Red Rooster, Lewis’ Restaurant and Grill, and the Lambda Chi fraternity brothers of Colby College!
