Just before April break we welcomed author & illustrator Elizabeth Janelle to our K0-1st grade classrooms. She shared her wonderful book, Nina Climbs a Mountain, and led a goal-setting activity that reminded our students that no mountain is too high to climb.

A massive thank you to Elizabeth for visiting us here in Southie and an huge Perry Shark Shoutout to our incredible supporters. Because of you, every single student (K0-6th!) has had the chance to meet and learn from an author this year.

Families- if your student hasn’t stopped talking about Nina check out the link in the bio to purchase your own copy!

That’s a wrap on Perry Shark Yoga! Let’s give a huge shark shoutout to Erin Holland (Ms. E) from The Family Yoga Project for making this happen!

From leprechaun adventures and springtime growth to Yoga Olympics and Perry Shark teamwork students across K1-6th grade explored yoga through movement, breath, mindfulness and play!

Students practiced skills to help them feel strong, calm, focused and confident on and off the mat! They learned breathwork, partner poses, team challenges, meditation and mindfulness as part of a four week yoga unit during their physical education classes. It was an amazing opportunity for students to grow in both confidence and connection each week.

This unit concluded with “Perry Shark Yoga” where students worked together through partner poses and group activities, reinforcing the importance of kindness, cooperation & community.

A big thank you to the Friends of the Perry donors and sponsors for supporting so that we can make programs like this possible.

Huge thank you to the brave teachers, parents, teachers, and State Representative David Biele() for keeping the Perry Polar Plunge tradition alive! 💙
Last Friday, these incredible community members plunged into the 33-degree waters of Boston Harbor to celebrate the Perry School and reaching our Giving Tuesday fundraising goals.
A huge shout-out to Michael Casper and Kevin Conroy from Greater Boston Firefighters Pipes and Drums () for safely leading us to and from the icy waters, Annie’s Bakery & Cafe() for the fresh cookies, and Deja Brew () for the hot chocolate ☕🍪 Also, check out doing their own plunge to celebrate!

Such a fun and memorable way to kick off February vacation! Thank you to everyone who plunged — and everyone who came out to cheer us on! 💙❄️

Yoga Gym Unit Returns to the Perry!

We’re excited to welcome back the Yoga Gym Unit at Perry for the third year in a row! This four-week program will take place during gym class, starting the week of March 23rd through the week of April 13th, and is offered to all students in grades K1 through 6. In partnership with Perry’s gym teacher, Mike Manning, and with the support of The Friends of the Perry, students will participate in fun, engaging yoga and mindfulness activities designed to support both physical movement, social awareness and emotional well-being.

Led by Erin Holland, certified yoga instructor and founder of The Family Yoga Project, this unit introduces students to yoga poses, breathing exercises, mindful movement, sensory awareness, and rest through age-appropriate themed classes. The goal is to give students simple, practical tools they can use in school and at home to help with focus, confidence, and self-regulation, all while having fun in gym class. We’re grateful to continue this meaningful partnership and look forward to another great month of movement, mindfulness, and connection with the Perry community!
