Army ROTC cadet at Boston College, Home Base volunteer, and Boston EMT Margot Sonia is running this year's Boston Marathon with Massachusetts General Hospital. "The level of teamwork, proficiency, thoroughness, and compassion that is expected of Mass General providers greatly contributes to my confidence in the care that my patients receive," she says of her experiences transporting patients to the hospital. "I am incredibly grateful for the work Mass General does both within its own walls and within the community to support the people of Boston and strive towards a brighter future."

Margot's work in emergency medicine has in part been inspired by her experience witnessing the Boson Marathon bombing as a child, watching her mother cross the finish line just eight minutes prior to the tragedy. "It is such an honor to run this race with a team that represents a large part of the initial response to the tragic events," Margot says, "With countless Mass General employees responding at medical tents and serving as a secondary response at the hospital itself."

Twins and Bostonians Jess and Katie Bramlett have spent every Marathon Monday together watching the Boston Marathon , but this year, they're taking to the course themselves, running and fundraising together for Massachusetts General Hospital. As an employee in the MGB Development Office, Jess has been deeply impacted by the clinicians, patients, and researchers she works with, witnessing firsthand the lifesaving impact of dollars raised through the Mass General Marathon Team.

For Kasey Hartung's cousin Sofia, Mass General Brigham has become a second home. Receiving treatment here for Pitt-Hopkins syndrome, Sofia "has faced more in her childhood than most face in a lifetime," Kasey says. "I've seen firsthand how the Mass General nurses, Child Life specialists, doctors, and palliative care team on Ellison 17 and 18 have wrapped their arms around Sofia and her family. Mass General has been there through every setback and every small victory. They've made space for birthdays in hospital rooms, for art projects and music therapy, for moments of happiness when everything felt impossibly heavy." Kasey is running this year's Boston Marathon for Massachusetts General Hospital , inspired by Sofia's unending strength and resilience.

Erin Campbell is running the Boston Marathon for Massachusetts General Hospital to honor her sister, Sydney, who lost her life to bone cancer two years ago. Despite hailing from upstate New York, Sydney was a lifetime Patriots and Red Sox fan, attending Northeastern University starting in 2014, and living in Boston for the remainder of her life. When Erin found out one of Syndey's nurses had also run Boston, it felt meant to be. This April, she will run the marathon in the city her sister loved, all while raising funds to support the compassionate clinicians that took care of her.

Massachusetts General Hospital nurse Margaret Henry's mother was her biggest cheerleader. This year, Margaret will run the Boston Marathon in her honor, coming full circle from the high school cross country meets her mother cheered the loudest at, to crossing the finish line of the most prestigious marathon in the world, raising funds for the hospital that provided her mother compassionate pancreatic cancer care. "My mom would show up at every race with her bullhorn and cowbell to make sure she was always the loudest spectator and so I always knew how proud she was of me," Margaret says.

"Since my time on the cross-country team, it has always been my goal to run the Boston Marathon in my home city one day. A few weeks before my mom passed away, she called me and told me she had just had a beautiful dream in which I ran the Boston Marathon as I pushed her in a wheelchair, and we crossed the finish line together, accomplishing one of my lifelong goals as a team. Although my mom is now in heaven, I know that I will still cross the Boston Marathon finish line with my mom, who is with me in everything I do."

After serving as an attending anesthesiologist and intensivist at Massachusetts General Hospital for the past several years, Stefano Spina is running to give back to the place that has given him so much. "Running for the Mass General Marathon team and raising funds is my way of expressing gratitude for all the opportunities and support I have received from this remarkable institution," he says. "It’s an honor to contribute to the Mass General mission and to give back to the community that has given so much to me and my family."

Ashley Cook is running this year's Boston Marathon for Massachusetts General Hospital in memory of her best friend Meghan. "At sixteen, my best friend faced the unthinkable," Ashley says. "A diagnosis of stage 4 non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma that she met it with strength and humor that seemed impossible for someone her age. Somehow, she did it β€” she beat it. She went on to live, to love, and to fill the world with her unstoppable light. 13 years later, cancer came back, a secondary diagnosis due to the radiation treatment she received as a teenager β€” stage 4 metastatic breast cancer. Once again, she chose hope. She received treatment at Mass General, surrounded by people who admired her courage as much as I did. She fought with everything she had, showing grace even in the hardest moments. This past spring, I lost her β€” on my wedding weekend. The most beautiful and heartbreaking time of my life will always be forever tied to hers. Losing her has changed everything, but her spirit still guides me every single day."

This , make a gift to support the dedicated Mass General Marathon Team runners setting out on the 20-week road to the Boston Marathon, beginning their training this week!

Each and every one of these runners has made the courageous commitment to not only run 26.2 miles this April, but also to raise critical funds in support of Mass General Brigham pediatric oncology, emergency medicine, and Home Base.

They're turning intention into action, putting one foot in front of the other for the hundreds of miles they'll run over the next 5 months, and turning to their communities to help them raise thousands of dollars in the process. Make a donation to the runner in your community today to support the lifesaving care provided at Mass General, and to let them know you're there with them every step of the way. www.givengain.com/campaign/mgh26
