Healthcare access isn’t just about availability and affordability. Patients won’t fully utilize available services if they struggle to navigate the complex healthcare system or if they don’t trust the system to deliver in the first place.

That’s why Community Health Workers (CHWs) are integral to access.

CHWs work to build trust with the communities they serve and connect residents with the health and human service system. In the health center environment, CHWs help patients access resources, coordinate care, provide health education, and follow up to make sure no one slips through the cracks. Their culturally competent support empowers patients to seek care and removes barriers in their way.

To improve the health of the communities we serve, the Mass League is committed to advancing the CHW profession within community health centers. Through advocacy, professional development opportunities, and standardized resources, we equip CHWs to meet evolving patient needs and better integrate them within health center teams

This National Community Health Worker Awareness Week, join us in celebrating the dedicated CHW workforce and pushing for the support they need to drive community wellbeing.

As the community health center movement gathers in Las Vegas for the National Association of Community Health Centers' annual CHI, one of its earliest pioneers, Jim Hunt, debuted his new book, "If You've Seen One..." a collection of stories from his six decades working in community health centers.

We look forward to sharing more updates about this book in the coming weeks, so stay tuned!

We were proud to bring together health center leaders from across the nation for a Conversations in Leadership Diversity event!

At the National Association of Community Health Centers' annual conference, we co-sponsored a networking reception for leaders of color and allies, intended to spark dialogue around how we can navigate the current challenges facing both the health center movement and proponents of diversity. These moments of connection can boost our resilience and deepen our commitment to our shared values.

The Mass League is proud to recognize legislative champions for the community health center movement. One champion is Senator Julian Cyr, who time and time again, has stepped in to facilitate solutions to the challenges health centers face.

This session, he co-sponsored legislation to ensure health centers receive equitable reimbursement from commercial insurers, which if enacted, will help stabilize health center funding in an uncertain healthcare landscape. Thank you, Senator Cyr!

A Stitch of Hope - that was NeighborHealth's message behind creating a quilt that represents disparities in maternal health outcomes and the hope behind their efforts to reduce maternal morbidity and mortality.

NieghborHealth and its partners were proud to present this quilt to Governor Maura Healey in recognition for all her work to ensure all Massachusetts residents can safely give birth and raise families.

Mass League President and CEO, Michael Curry, Esq. was a guest speaker for Lynn Community Health Center's Community Health Student Fellowship kickoff! The highly successful fellowship program gives students in Lynn exposure to careers in the community health field, mentorship, and a greater understanding of how social factors affect their health.

During his remarks, Michael encouraged this year's cohort to embrace their strengths and to pursue their goals with urgency and purpose.

Medicaid cuts are only months away, and community health centers are bracing for impact.

Massachusetts health centers currently care for 66% of the state’s uninsured population, regardless of their ability to pay. Now, with 300,000 residents expected to lose Medicaid coverage, our services will be needed more than ever, while our finances will suffer unprecedented pressure. This will strain our capacity to care for the Commonwealth's most vulnerable.

We’re speaking out. Our President & CEO, Michael Curry, and Matt Mullaney, CEO of Charles River Community Health, spoke to the Boston Business Journal about how health centers are adapting to best serve our communities.
