So excited to see change coming to Suffolk Law! Part of the Call to Action that SPARC Co-Sponsored in 2020 was asking Suffolk Law to do more to reach the community it serves. Suffolk Law will now be offering a "Prelaw Pipline" Summer Program for students to get a sense what law school and law practice are like. It's a step in the right direction for sure!

“We’re very interested in doing our part to increase diversity in the legal profession since so many lawyers don’t reflect the population they serve,” Suffolk Law Dean Andrew Perlman told Law.com.

People of any color, ethnicity, or demographic background can experience food insecurity, but communities of color face hunger at 2x the rate of white, non-Hispanic communities. This holiday season SPARC, Suffolk’s Peace and Reconciliation Coalition, will be collecting and delivering prepared and shelf stable food donations to Community Fridges in our neighborhoods. Message us if you'd like to join!

Unity is a great step toward peace but don’t let anyone make you believe that it comes at the expense of accountability.

There can be no reconciliation without responsibility. Unity can only be achieved by trust. When trust has been breached, the offending parties must be held accountable. Usually, this is a self-responsibility but in the absence of that, all parties must decide what the lines are that were crossed, who crossed them and how they will avoid such betrayals going forward.

Anyone who says unity can be achieved without accountability is trying to sell you injustice.

TODAY IS THE DAY!!!

A message from our president, Kisha: "I know it’s been a tough week for justice. Some of us are really heartbroken and bewildered. But remember this election is about a few hundred people in Washington and the real work is going to happen on the ground – with us. So join us for a panel where we discuss restorative justice and how we can incorporate it into our lives and careers to be the future leaders that democracy really needs.

SPARC hopes to start off the fall 2020 semester with increased transparency and visibility within our Suffolk Law community. We are starting a campaign in order to create a space for Black and POC Suffolk Law students, alumni, and faculty to share their experiences. We are seeking volunteers to share their stories in order to open the door for administrative and student body accountability and reconciliation. All posts will be anonymous but speakers will have the opportunity to identify themselves, if they choose to do so, by the year of their graduation.

Please click the link below to share your story. Responses will be shared on SPARC's page and on Instagram .suffolk

Thank you.

Black at Suffolk Law provides students/alumni/faculty a space to share their stories on racism and adversity. Thank you for entrusting SPARC with your stories, we hear you and we support you.

Hey crew! I’m passing along some information on a webinar that’s taking place today at 4pm.

This webinar is put on by the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and it discusses racism in the pretrial process. If you can’t make it, don’t worry a recording may be posted on the website following the webinar. You don’t need to be interested in being a defense attorney to join. If you’re curious about the process in general, check it out!

Thanks to Shree Chudasama for this one!

Join Us July 14, 2020 at 4:00pm EST for Policing Black Bodies II: Race + Pretrial Practices, a free live discussion featuring Drs. Angela Hattery and Earl Smith, with panelists Cherise Fanno Burdeen & Vincent Southerland. Moderated by civil rights attorney Robert Patillo.;
