Music in Bloom is just a few weeks away! To celebrate our most anticipated concert of the season, we’re highlighting each station you’ll encounter at Music in Bloom, starting with The Ramble. This station is set under a wooden pavilion and surrounded by a forage garden and countless perennials, shrubs, and trees, secluded from the rest of the music. Visitors will experience pieces for percussion and cello that are inspired by themes such as playfulness, strength, and separation.

Happy Saturday! For our next installment in our On This Day series, we’re going back to 2013 to look at Juventas’ premiere of Polina Nazaykinskaya’s chamber opera, The Magic Mirror. This piece is a reimagined setting of the classic Snow White tale, taking on a number of differences from the version most people are familiar with to create a darker and immersive experience, all sung in Russian. This production was also performed at the NY International Fringe Festival the same year!

We have lots of exciting performances happening this summer, starting with Music in Bloom next month! For more information, visit https://www.juventasmusic.org/music-in-bloom-2026

Happy last week of May! Our biggest concert series of the year, Music in Bloom, is right around the corner! To celebrate, we are featuring one of the composers on the program: Reena Esmail!

Grammy-nominated composer Reena Esmail’s music “weaves together the traditions of Hindustani and Western classical music.” She is a widely sought-after composer for orchestral, chamber, and choral works. She has been commissioned by notable ensembles such as the Philadelphia Orchestra, San Francisco Imani Winds, and many others.

As a result of her compositional success, Reena has held residencies at prestigious institutions, including Tanglewood, Spoleto, and Marlboro. She has made appearances on the PBS series “Now Hear This” and the Metropolitan Museum of Art's “Frame of Mind” podcast.

Happy Friday! Can you believe we are almost done with the month of May? This week, we are spotlighting British Composer Jonathan Dove, who is featured on our upcoming Music in Bloom Program!

Jonathan Dove is a forced to be reckoned with in the modern opera world. He is one of the most performed living opera composers to this date. Dove has written more than thirty operatic works, including his breakout work, "Flight", which has enjoyed over thirty productions in Europe, the US and Australia

In addition to his extensive operatic catalog, Dove's orchestral works have been performed by the BBC Symphony Orchestra, Philharmonia Orchestra, and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, among others.

Juventas last performed one of Dove's works back in April of 2020, when soprano Kelley Hollis virtually performed his mini-opera "Ariel," which explores the character of the enslaved spirit from Shakespeare's "The Tempest." We've included a clip of Kelley singing the beginning of the first song!

Can't get enough Jonathan Dove? Juventas is excited to perform "The Tree of Many Names" for soprano, violin and cello from Dove's opera "Minterne" on our annual showcase at New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill: Music in Bloom!

Designed as a roving concert experience, guests are invited to wander the gardens of New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill, discovering a series of chamber ensembles nestled into gorgeous garden scenes along the way.
