Some stories leave a lasting impact. 💙

Earlier this year, JHI began supporting two siblings in Rwanda, Izere and Jean-Batiste, who were both living with pyoderma gangrenosum (PG), a rare and painful inflammatory skin disease.

In March, we received the heartbreaking news that Izere had passed away. While we mourn her loss, we are honoring her memory by continuing to stand with Jean-Batiste.

Together with his family and our dedicated partners in Rwanda, we are working to make comprehensive genetic testing possible, a critical step toward understanding his condition and guiding the best treatment.

Every patient deserves answers. Every family deserves hope. Thank you for supporting our mission to bring specialized care to those who need it most.

Welcome back, Lion!

We’re so happy to welcome Lion and his family back to Los Angeles as he continues his medical journey at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.

Lion, now 4 years old, traveled from Vietnam with his mother, Lily, and his older brother, Lione, for important follow-up care related to congenital biliary atresia, a rare liver condition that requires ongoing specialized care.

Before his appointments could begin, our team worked to secure housing close to the hospital during an especially busy summer in Los Angeles. Thanks to our dedicated patient coordinator, Violeta, Lion's family now has a place to stay within walking distance of CHLA.

After meeting with his care team, Lion has already begun the next phase of his treatment plan, which includes additional testing to ensure he continues receiving the best possible care. Families like Lion's often have a limited window to complete appointments while in the U.S., making every day count.

We're honored to walk alongside Lion and his family every step of the way. Thank you to everyone who supports JHI and makes stories like Lion's possible. Together, we're helping children access the specialized care they need and move toward healthier futures. 💙

The girls continue to reach new milestones! Both have started babbling and saying “dada,” though their mom, Fatou, jokes that she’s still waiting to hear the best word of all — “mama!” 😊

Mariem loves saying “good girl,” and Fati recently added “high five!” to her growing vocabulary. 🙌

They also received their very first pairs of shoes, a special gift from one of their favorite nurses. They absolutely love them! In true toddler fashion, their first reaction wasn’t just to wear them—it was to explore them by putting them in their mouths! Their curiosity brought plenty of smiles and laughter to everyone around them.

Watching these sweet girls learn, grow, and discover the world around them is such a joy. 🌟
