Today we had the honor of standing beside Mayor Michelle Wu, Dr. Ebert from Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Dr. O’Donnell, Union President Sam Dillon, Commissioner Marshall, IAFF President Edzo Kelly as well as many city council members as we addressed a problem that never should have existed in the first place: no funding for firefighter cancer screenings.

When the issue was identified, this team didn’t just offer words — they took action. Once again, Dana-Farber showed up for Boston firefighters and stepped forward to fund critical, life-saving early detection cancer screenings for members of the Boston Fire Department.

Cancer continues to impact the fire service at alarming rates. Early detection saves lives, and today was proof of what can happen when leaders, the fire department, and the medical community come together with a shared commitment to protecting firefighters and their families.

Grateful to stand with people who chose action over excuses and made the health and lives of firefighters a priority.

This matters.

Lives will be saved because of it.
