First responders move toward the call.

Today, on National First Responders Day, we recognize the people who train, prepare, and step forward when others need help. National Ski Patrol members are a critical part of that community, bringing emergency care, sound judgment, and teamwork to mountains, trails, and outdoor spaces across the country.

To our patrollers and first responders everywhere: thank you for your service, your preparation, and your commitment to caring for others.

Ski season is right around the corner! Across the country, patrollers are preparing to return to the hill—refreshing skills, checking equipment, and getting ready to support their ski areas throughout the season.

Soon, lifts will spin, snow will fall, and NSP-trained patrollers will be back doing what they do best: helping keep the mountain safe for everyone. Here’s to the start of another season!

Got tired of talking about rain, so let's look at snow for a change of pace. Below are analog years for our super El Niño year. The El Niño itself will peak late this fall or early this winter. Such years favor more winter snowfall than average in Iowa. But as 2015-16 showed, that isn't a guarantee.

Congratulations Mindy!
Our Patrol Director, Mindy, has been named the 2026 NSP Central Division Outstanding Patrol Representative. This is the second time she has recieved this high honor from our division. We are very proud to have her as our leader!

Congratulations Senior Patroller Spencer Vaughn!
During our recent Bike 1 class, Spencer earned his third instructor certification. He is an instructor for Outdoor Emergency Care, Outdoor Emergency Transportation, and Bike Patrol.

Congratulations to our first class of Bike Patrollers! New skills and certifications. They are prepared to help sister patrols who have active bike patrols and ready if there is a need to stand up a bike patrol locally.

Congratulations Seven Oaks Patrollers and Seven Oaks Recreation - Boone IA!

Today, members of the Seven Oaks Ski Patrol were honored at the 43rd Annual Governor's Volunteer Awards for their outstanding commitment to serving our guests and community.

Each year, our volunteer patrollers contribute more than 3,000 hours of service on the slopes during the winter season and at our Gladiator Assault Challenge Mud Run. Whether they're providing first aid, responding to emergencies, promoting guest safety, or supporting special events, their dedication makes a tremendous impact on everyone who visits Seven Oaks.

Please join us in congratulating the Seven Oaks Ski Patrol on this incredible honor and thanking them for the thousands of volunteer hours they give each year to keep our guests and community safe.

Halfway through summer, and we’re already thinking about snow.

While we wait for winter, patrollers across the country are preparing for the season ahead through NSP's education programs, which help build the skills they rely on in the field.

So what does that mean when the snow returns? It means stronger rescue readiness, sharper emergency care, and better decision-making.

The turns will be back soon. Patrollers are already getting ready.
