As-salamu alaykum! We'll be at ISNA's 63rd Annual Convention this Saturday, September 5th — twice. Swipe through.

First, the panel: "What the Sunnah Asks of Us — Caring for Vulnerable Children Through Foster Care and Guardianship." Featuring Imam Zaid Shakir, Sameena Zahoor, and Ranya Shbeib, moderated by MFCA Executive Director Khadija Moiz. We'll unpack the Quranic and prophetic guidance behind fostering, clear up common misconceptions, and share real ways to help — foster parenting, mentorship, respite care, donations, and community partnerships.

● Session 6B, Room 140 DE | 12:30–1:30 PM

Then come find our table at the Michigan Muslims Non-Profit Showcase and say salaam. Stop by to learn about MFCA's work and hear how you can get involved as a foster parent, mentor, or advocate.

● Atrium, Huntington Place | 3:00–9:00 PM

Can't make it to ISNA? You can still stand with the families we serve — link in bio to donate.

Riduan Rafique is an educator, entrepreneur, and community leader who has served the Metro Detroit community as an active khatib and Youth Director for more than a decade. He recently finished a Master’s degree in Islamic Studies with Bayan and has been working as a halal real estate agent, assisting clients exclusively with cash purchases and Shariah-compliant financing transactions.

Riduan is joining MFCA as a Project Manager, where he will help establish Support and Resource Centers throughout Michigan. Through this role, he will collaborate with community leaders, nonprofit organizations, and local partners to expand access to essential services and resources for families and underserved communities across the state.

Our Director of Operations did not finish high school — he took his GED. He says a plan and one person to make it with him would have changed things. That is why we bring speakers to our youth. The resources are here. They are for you.

Her mentee used to go quiet in rooms full of people who did not look like her. Now she asks the question, names what she needs, and says what she actually thinks. Nothing about her changed — she just stopped shrinking. Areeba says that is the whole job: staying beside someone long enough for them to hear their own voice. Areeba’s mentee started out shy and reserved. Six months in, she advocates for herself, names how she feels, and says it out loud. Areeba grew up Muslim in the United States, often the outlier in the room — she wishes someone had told her sooner to hold on to her confidence. Now she gets to watch someone else find hers. Grateful for three years of partnership with Islamic Relief USA

In her first meeting with a mentee, Maliha builds a goal sheet that covers all of it — academic, social, physical, spiritual — so the whole person moves through the program, not one slice of them. The most rewarding part of the work, she says, is watching them reach those goals.
