Topic: Growing Fruit in Urban Spaces
Dawn Green will present information necessary to grow and harvest an abundance of fruit you love, in your own backyard:
Why would you want to grow your own fruit?
Where on earth would I grow fruit in my yard?
What can I even grow in such a limited space?
How can I grow in the city, in an HOA, or in a condo?
How much fruit will I get?
Where do I find plants/trees hardy for my area?
Biography of our speaker this evening, Dawn Green:
Born and raised in Michigan. Lived in Alabama while in the Army.
My passion for gardening was passed down from my parents and grandparents.
I became an Oakland County Master Gardener in 2001 and turned my passion into a career.
I started as an estate gardener, maintaining all aspects of my clients' gardens: annuals, perennials, tropicals, vegetables and fruits. The more my clients wanted to grow, the more I researched and learned.
In 2020, I started my business (Dawn Gardens LLC) to focus on raised bed vegetable gardens and urban orchards. Now my primary focus is the orchards—planning, planting, pruning and maintaining.
I focused my education on fruit tree care through OrchardPeople.com, an online series of courses taught by my friend and mentor, Susan Poizner.
The courses covered Fruit Tree Care, IPM, Soil Essentials for Fruit Trees, Fruit Tree Pruning, and Researching Fruit Trees for Organic Growing Success.
