The twenty-third volume in our series of CHR Dialogue: Perspectives from the Field.
Featuring Dan Maldonado, CHR Kitchen Coordinator, and Jimbo Jordan, CHR’s 2025 Volunteer of the Year, in conversation with host and CHR Board Member Mike Thornton on KBRP Weekly Magazine .kbrp (original air date: November 28th, 2025).

In this episode, Dan talks honestly about what it feels like when people you know and care about are living outside—and when harm, illness, or loss inevitably happens. He reflects on the heartbreak and helplessness that can come with this work, and how building real, trusting relationships helps him keep showing up anyway.

Thanks to a $10,000 grant from NASTAD , one of Cochise Harm Reduction’s longtime funders, we were able to invest in staff wellness and sustainability.

Between September 2025 and March 2026, 10 CHR staff members received therapeutic support through psychotherapy, acupuncture, chair massage, and ionic foot baths… many for the first time! We also hosted four in-office therapy days focused on healing, rest, and resilience.

In this line of work, self-care isn’t optional - it’s essential. We’re proud to support the wellbeing of the people who care for our community every day.

From water and tents to sleeping bags and community connection, Dan talks about CHR’s commitment to making sure no one is left behind, even in the toughest conditions.
