🏀 BERNARDSTON REC IS LOOKING FOR HIGH SCHOOL REFEREES!

Do you have a high school athlete who is interested in refereeing basketball for our youth basketball program? We would love to hear from them!

We are looking for students who are willing to do more than just make calls. We want referees who are willing to teach and encourage our younger athletes.

Our referees must be willing to:

Explain calls and help young athletes understand what they did wrong.

Teach players the correct way to perform skills and follow the rules.

Make appropriate calls during the game.

Be positive role models.

Bring energy, enthusiasm, and encouragement to the court.

Help create a fun, positive learning environment for our younger players.

This is a great opportunity for high school athletes to gain experience, develop leadership skills, and give back to their community while helping the next generation of basketball players!

Bernardston rec last year merged with Northfield Rec for girls softball.
Bernardston would love to see a girls team this year. We have beautiful dugouts, a great field.
Who would play for Bernardston?
This would be grades 3-6

We are looking for a coaches for our basketball season.

Tiny tots basketball grades k-1
They meet 1 time per week

Junior boys basketball grades 2-4
They practice 2 times per week with games on Saturday.

Senior girls basketball grades 5-6
They practice 2 times per week with games on Saturdays.

If we need more than 1 team for levels we will let everyone know that we will need more coaches.

Basketball practices will start mid November.

Registration closes Friday, November 13th.
This will allow us to order basketball jerseys so they can arrive on time for the season.
With all the holidays we need to give time to print to the company we use.
Please note the basketball jerseys do run small.
If you do not registered by the 13th there is no guarantee we will be able to add your child to the rosters for the season.

We would like to give out some special shout outs to the following people who helped make the 2026 soccer season a success.
Our soccer coaches. Without all of you these young athletes wouldn’t have the opportunity to learn, grow and have fun with the game of soccer. Thank you all.

To Eric Stennes for the upgrades to the snack shack making the window door easier to open.
The Bernardston DPW for making our fields look amazing for the season and trash removal.

Thank you everyone for all your help with our event. This is a huge event in the town of Bernardston for young youth athletes. It has been a staple to our league and we hope it will continue for numerous generations.
The soccer jamboree has been growing over the years.
When this event first happened it was at PVRS with a handful of teams. In the early 2000’s it was moved to Pratt Field. Back then junior teams were grades 3-4 and senior teams were grades 5-6. At most the rec dept would make up to 10 fields.
Fast forward to Covid when everything changed. The year of 2021 life started to change for the better. Kids were playing soccer again. The league grew by adding new towns.
The rules for soccer were changing. We changed the grade levels for junior and seniors. Allowing younger grades to play.
Junior level was grades 1-3 and seniors was 4th-6th. The rules were changed because when COVID happened games couldn’t be played. Towns adapted to skills and drill levels which opened up to younger kids having an interest.
2025 the rules change again. This was one of the best rule changes. We added a new division. Peewee would become the former junior level. This would now become a level for 1st-2nd grade. The junior level would be on a bigger field the same size as the senior field. This would be for kids in 3rd-4th grade.
The seniors would return back to the 5th-6th grade level.
This year we had 47 teams at the soccer jamboree. We had 20 fields built. If we had more larger goals we could have had a few more fields built. Last year Bernardston purchased numerous large goals just for this event. It is tricky to host a big event for older kids because moving soccer goals from one town to the next isn’t doable. Asking for peewee goals is easier because they are tiny.
When we collect money for parking we use that money to purchase new equipment like goals and help cover the cost of paint.
Seth, Ian, Jenn have been part of this event for over 25 years. Steve has been part of this event since it started.

We had a blast handing out treats at the annual drive thru event in Bernardston.

The Bernardston Vet’s, Bernardston Kiwanis, United Church of Bernardston and the Bernardston Rec enjoyed seeing all of you .
