Last night, Bensalem Rotary Club hosted our annual Police Officer of the Year Award Celebration. In addition to our Officer of the Year, we recognized our Person of the Year and Rotarian of the Year.

Sean Smith is an 18 year veteran of Bensalem Police Department and was recognized as Police Officer of the Year for his outstanding service and leadership in the implementation of Bensalem Secure. Bensalem Secure is an initiative started in collaboration with local businesses to combat the rise in retail theft. Since its inception, we have greatly reduced incidents and increased capture of the offenders holding them accountable for their actions in Bensalem. Beyond this, Officer Smith is an all around professional who wears many hats for our PD and serves and protects our community leading with heart every day. Congratulations Officer Smith and thank you for your dedicated service to our community.

Our Person of the Year is Victoria Mathieu. Victoria is a Bensalem High School, Class of 2025 graduate who has made astounding strides throughout her high school career building her reputation and future through our district. You may have heard about her amazing accomplishments on the news recently as she was accepted to 5 Ivy League Colleges! Of course, this was because of Victoria’s incredible commitment to excellence in academics along with her heart for service and commitment to extra curricula programs. We are happy to share that Victoria chose to attend Yale in the fall where she will be studying law💙 While she is very excited for her next chapter and the opportunity ahead, she looks forward to coming home to Bensalem to continue to serve her community in the future. She attributes her success to her incredible family and our wonderful school district programs and teachers. Victoria, we wish you all the best on your adventure ahead. Remember, Bensalem will always be home💙 Congratulations on your recognition and achievements!

This year’s selection for Rotarian of the Year is our own Patrick Clark of Neshaminy Creek Advisors! Patrick has served with us for 20 years and helped fund raise and volunteer for many of our events. He is a top contributor and we are grateful for his fellowship and service. Patrick contributed his time and efforts to helping us raise $12,000 for local student athletes in partnership with Mud in My Cleats. Patrick, thank you for all that you do to support our club and community. Congratulations on your recognition!

We would like to thank1675 Spiritss and Eva for your amazing support and making this a fun and easy event for everyone! This is our 3rd year of hosting with them and it is always a pleasure!

Also, big thanks to A & G Pizzeria Locale for always coming through with the best catering for us! This is their 2nd year supporting our event and they do not disappoint. We appreciate your continued support!

Last night we celebrated 2 outstanding Bensalem community members. Our Rotarian of the Year, Councilman Joe Knowles and our Person of the Year Jim Mirra.

Joe Knowles has served our community in multiple capacities including Bensalem Township Council and St. Charles of Borromeo- Board of Directors. In addition, Joe has been a contributing member of Bensalem Rotary Club for 12 years currently serving on our board. We appreciate his leadership and dedication to our community. He truly exemplifies Service Above Self.

Our person of the year, Jim Mirra is an inspiration to our young students in Bensalem School District. As a parent himself, it was important for him to contribute his time and knowledge to coaching our students in First Robotics. He was nominated by a teacher who has worked with him in the district and Jim has certainly stood out as being selfless and dedicated to helping develop programs and lead our students to success for tomorrow.

Congratulations to both Joe and Jim, we thank you for your outstanding contributions and leadership.

Last night we honored Bensalem’s Police Officer, Fire Fighter, and Civilian of the year.

Congratulations to Lieutenant Mike Schum of Bensalem PD, Lieutenant Nick Altomare of Bensalem Fire Rescue, and Tracey Buechner our first recipient of the Civilian of the Year award!

Each of these honorees have shown tremendous courage, dedication, and excellence in their respective roles. We are proud to recognize their contributions to our community and grateful for their continued service. Congratulations to all!

Congratulations to Michelle Benitez for being selected 2022-23 Bensalem Rotary Club Rotarian of the year. Michelle has helped our organization with our bowling event. With the help of the Philadelphia chapter of the NFL retirees, Eagles and the Phillies the event raises money for college scholarships.
