🫀 CPR can save a life. Knowing what to do matters. 🫀

If someone suddenly collapses and is unresponsive:

🚨 Call 911 immediately
📍 Send someone to get an AED if one is available.

👀 Check for breathing
Look for normal breathing for no more than 10 seconds. If they aren’t breathing or are only gasping, begin CPR.

💪 Push hard and fast
Place your hands in the center of the chest and compress:
✔️ 100–120 compressions per minute
✔️ At least 2 inches deep
✔️ Allow the chest to fully recoil between compressions

⚡ Use an AED as soon as possible
Turn it on and follow the voice prompts. AEDs are designed for everyday people to use and can greatly improve a person’s chance of survival.

❤️ Keep going
Continue CPR until help arrives, an AED is ready to use, or the person begins breathing normally.

Every second counts during cardiac arrest. The actions of a bystander can make all the difference before first responders arrive.

🫀🚑⚡

❤️⚡ CPR & AED WEEK • JUNE 1–7 ⚡❤️

Would you know what to do if someone suddenly collapsed?

Every year, thousands of people suffer sudden cardiac arrest outside of a hospital. Immediate CPR and early AED use can double or even triple a person’s chance of survival. The reality is that help is often minutes away—but YOU can make a difference in those critical moments.

🚑 CALL 911
❤️ START CPR
⚡ USE AN AED IF AVAILABLE

CPR is easier than most people think, and modern AEDs are designed to guide you through every step with voice prompts.

This week, take a few minutes to learn or refresh these life-saving skills. The life you save could be a family member, friend, coworker, neighbor, or even a complete stranger.

🫀 CPR keeps blood flowing.
⚡ AEDs help restore a normal heart rhythm.
⏱️ Every second matters.

Join Bennett Firefighters as we recognize CPR & AED Week and help build a safer, more prepared community.

🚒 Under the Turnouts: Lieutenant Tony Galvin 🚒

Tony’s Bennett story started long before he officially joined. His parents began volunteering in the late 90s, so it’s safe to say Tony spent a fair amount of time growing up around Bennett. ❤️

Tony became a cadet in July 2002, became a full member in 2007, served as a volunteer for many years, briefly stepped into a temporary part-time role in early 2019, and became a career member in October 2019. In January 2024, Tony was promoted to Lieutenant. 👨‍🚒👏

With around 23 years of combined service in his many roles, Tony has been a steady part of Bennett-Watkins Fire Rescue. 🔥

Tony currently serves as an A Shift Lieutenant, working between Stations 92 and 93. Around the station, you can often find him laughing, telling jokes, or out with his crew putting in the work. 💪😂🚑

We are grateful to have worked alongside Tony all these years and appreciate everything he continues to bring to BWFR. Thank you for your dedication, leadership, and service to this community! 🇺🇸🚒👏

🚨🩺 EMERGENCY READY: RATTLESNAKE BITE 🐍
Bennett firefighters want you prepared. We’ve already responded to a rattlesnake bite this year and want to make sure our community knows what to do if it happens to you or someone around you. 🚑

⚠️ A rattlesnake bite is a MEDICAL EMERGENCY.The faster you call 911, the faster antivenom can be given — helping reduce tissue damage and serious complications.

✅ WHAT TO DO:📞 Call 911 immediately🧘 Keep the person calm and still⬇️ Keep the bite at or below heart level💍 Remove rings, watches, or tight clothing before swelling starts📸 If it’s safe, take a photo of the snake to help responders identify it

🚫 DO NOT:❌ Try to catch or kill the snake❌ Cut the wound❌ Use a tourniquet❌ Apply ice❌ Try to suck out the venom

⚠️ Never pick up a snake that appears dead. Even after death, snakes can reflexively bite and inject venom. Use a shovel or stick if one needs to be moved.

🐍 Some important facts:• Over 25% of snake bites are “dry bites” with little or no venom injected• Bite severity may not look serious at first, however symptoms can worsen quickly• Fang marks are common with rattlesnake and pit viper bites• Non-venomous snakes are more likely to leave jaw-shaped bite marks without fangs

🚒📈 From 2020 to 2025, Bennett-Watkins Fire Rescue experienced a 33.9% increase in call volume while continuing to serve a rapidly growing community. 🌎🏘️

Growth means:
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 More neighbors to protect
🚑 More emergencies to answer
🔥 Greater demand on firefighters & medics
🚒 More strain on apparatus and stations
⏱️ More calls answered every single day

We’re proud to continue serving our community through that growth — day and night. 💪❤️🚨
