Some of you may already know Indivisible Bellingham, Bellingham Q***r Collective, Indivisible Skagit, and No Hate in WA State.

CAQE, Community Allies for Q***r Equity, is an affinity group supported by Indivisible Bellingham. One of our main organizers, Christiana, was also recently re-hired as a field organizer for No Hate in WA State.

As a group, CAQE has helped organize and support both of these upcoming events because we believe allies must be part of the conversation when it comes to supporting our q***r and trans community.

In a time when the danger facing trans people is increasing at deeply concerning rates, our trans community should not have to stand alone.

Both of these events are for everyone. Whether you are trans, q***r, questioning, an ally, a parent, a friend, a neighbor, or someone who simply wants to learn how to show up better, you are welcome.

Allies are especially encouraged to attend because we need you there.

June All Hands
This will be a special event where you have a chance to learn the basics of the science of gender, build confidence in your understanding, and feel more prepared to talk with friends, family, and community members.

Heightened Scrutiny Film Tour -
"Heigtened Scrutiny follows Chase Strangio, ACLU attorney and the first out trans person to argue before the Supreme Court, as he fights a high-stakes legal battle to overturn Tennessee's ban on gender-affirming care for transgender youth. (L.W v. Skrmetti). Ticket profits support No Hate in WA State, who is fighting back against 2 anti-trans initiatives.

IL-26-001 would roll back confidential support for students, making it less likely for LGBTQAI youth to report abuse. IL-26-638 targets trans girls in school sports and could force girls to prove their s*x through verification based on genetics, hormones, or reproductive anatomy. No Boys.

We ask that you please attend, interact with this post and share these events wherever you can. Send it to friends, group chats, facebook or wherever your community gets info. Feel free to screenshot or share this post directly!

CAQE knows that all human rights and needs are intertwined. Trans and q***r rights are not separate from others. To fight for trans and q***r rights is to fight for the dignity and safety of all individuals.

Our membership values the intersection of those who are in need and those who are tired of relying solely on the system that directly deprives so many of our community.

This year and the next we will be experimenting with different ways we can act in solidarity and create the world we want to live in. While our free little market booth cannot solve all the needs of our community, it is one step to creating a better world.

We also have some more special announcements coming up in June that we will share in the next couple weeks!! So keep your eyes peeled!

I couldn't be filled with more gratitude or love than right now!

bhamcaqe.org had it's very first tabling experience!

It felt so good to ensure that trans and q***r liberation is inseparable for the fight for human rights and democracy.

Everyone spent weeks preparing for this event and I couldn't be happier with the turnout.

My sibling even drew us some pro-trans stickers for the event that we could hand out! We had a zine educating about LGBTQAI+ scapegoating & materials that educated about 2 anti-trans initiatives in WA state.

More than that, we got to spread the word of OUR WORK. Our goal is to unite allies with the trans and q***r community, providing a space for allies to fully step into the work of defending q***r and trans rights. So often q***r and trans spaces are separated from general activist or community spaces. Sometimes out of safety, but we strive for intersectionality, so that we all feel safe, united and protected.

I do not want any trans youth or adult in this world to ever feel that they are alone in fighting for their rights. Their right to speak their truth, to gender affirming care and to every other right cisgender people have. We owe it to them, to our communities and to ourselves to ensure that we share the work. I am proud to stand next trans, q***r and allied partners in the work that we do.

We are all better when we are united, connected and organized. This is only the beginning to a long journey of fighting for what we know in our bones is right.

If you are trans, q***r or have a loved one that is - I love you and there are so many who love you and see you. There is no amount of hate that can contain this love.

In November Washington State voters will have two anti trans initiatives on our ballots. IL26-001 and IL26-638 endanger Washington students with invasive exams, forced LGBTQAI+ outings, and restricted access to help when they need it most, exposing them to more hate, bullying, and harassment.

These efforts are one example of LGBTQAI+ Scapegoating. Share this zine to spread the word about the real players behind these attacks.

Every 1st & 3rd Saturday we meet at the BQC center to plan upcoming events, connect, chat and do the work necessary to continue advocating for the trans and q***r community.

This Saturday (yesterday) we spent a whole day folding zines about LGBTQAI+ scapegoating to handout for No Kings!

Bellingham Q***r Collective (BQC) has been a huge support for CAQE as we have grown. Providing a public space for us to meet that is vibrant, maintained and welcoming has made all the difference. It really makes it so much easier to do the work when we have a safe place to convene and do our work!!

Know that upcoming CAQE meetings will be flexible! Yesterday marks our 4th meeting, with many more to come! We have some people who come nearly every time and some who drop by for an impromptu visit!

As time goes on, we'll post ahead of time what to expect for upcoming meetings so you can decide if you'd like to stop on by! ~

Now I can check off lobbying my list of things that I’ve been wanting to learn how to do!! 🥳

It was empowering to stand with trans friends and allies to advocate for trans rights. It was really special to walk from office to office, talking to legislative staff and hear how others conveyed their story so our elected officials could make decisions WITH the trans community.

All in all, it was a great event that helped demystify what “lobbying” really is.

Mostly it’s just coming in to speak about specific legislative bills that you either support or oppose and explaining the impacts they would have to you or your loved ones personally! 💖

🩵 And we accomplished real things. 🩵

Sharing from the report out from

Here’s what we won together:

💻 We killed HB 1834 — the addictive algorithms and age verification bill.

This bill posed a serious threat to the privacy and safety of LGBTQ youth online. Advocacy helped stop it this session. It is dead for now, and the pressure even brought bill sponsors to the table to work toward a better version next year.

🔍 We secured a hearing for SB 6081 — s*x designations privacy.

In a tight legislative calendar, getting a hearing is no small thing. Presence, meetings, and persistence moved legislators who had been sitting on the fence. The bill is now in motion.

💰We won a reconsideration of the victims funding cuts.

Budget leaders in both chambers are now reconsidering proposed cuts to victims services funding. That happened because advocates walked into those offices and told the truth about what those cuts would mean for real people.

I’m grateful to Gender Justice League for organizing such a powerful day, and I’m grateful to the trans leaders who continue to teach me what courage looks like. 💖
