We have to fundraise in order to offer kids in foster care the same opportunities kids in typical families receive. What does that look like? We're talking braces, sports, prom tickets, art therapy. These kids deserve dignity and hope - and that's why we do what we do. We hope you'll buy tickets to our upcoming Gala. You'll leave knowing you had fun and did something great for children in foster care.

Your friends have been saying “we should do something” since August. Here’s the something.

Harboritaville is Guiding Harbor’s 41st Annual Auction, and we’re turning Diamondback Music Hall into a beach town for one night. Leaky Tiki, a Jimmy Buffett tribute band, is playing. FOX 2’s Robin Murdoch is our emcee. There’s food, there’s a bar, and there are vacations and once-in-a-while experiences up for bid.

It’s a great night out. It also happens to fund the kids and families in foster care who count on Guiding Harbor every single day.

James Pappas is the President of the architecture and planning firm Fusco, Shaffer & Pappas, Inc. located in Ferndale. Jim and his team are helping us to design a new home for our youth and young adults who need the extra supports that typical foster care cannot offer.

We are so grateful for his team and how they design with a trauma informed perspective. Thank you to Jim and all of our sponsors for donating to Guiding Harbor to help us help kids in need.

We are so grateful for everyone offering to help. 💚

For this particular child, we’re hoping to provide the dignity and confidence of new school uniforms. Entering foster care already comes with so much change and uncertainty, and we want this child to have something that feels fresh, chosen just for them, and truly theirs.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with hand-me-downs, they can be a wonderful resource for families.

But in this moment, our goal is to give this child a small sense of normalcy and care after already going through so much.

If you have gently used uniforms you no longer need, we’d encourage you to consider donating them to your local foster closet, where they can still make a meaningful difference.

We appreciate our village more than you know. Thank you for helping us care for these precious children with dignity, intention and love.

Thinking about becoming a foster parent? The first step is simple: attend an orientation session.

Guiding Harbor offers foster care orientation twice a month for anyone interested in learning more about opening their heart and home to a child in need.

We are committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and affirming environment for all children and families. Guiding Harbor welcomes LGBTQ+ individuals and families who are interested in providing loving, stable homes for children in foster care, and we actively seek foster families who are supportive and accepting of LGBTQ+ youth.

Next Foster Care Orientation:
October 13th from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM.
