Thanks to everyone who came out to restore the river rocks, and let the Little Miami River low freely again! 20 dedicated people came to protect Ohio’s first national and state scenic river! We are so grateful for the many people who took time out of their days coming from as far north, as Troy and as far south as Clarksville! Let’s keep this momentum going and learn all about stormwater while getting our steps in this Sunday at the Stormwaters 4k FUN RUN-off!!! All entry fees to this race will go to support year-round efforts similar to today and continue to educate and advocate throughout the Little Miami watershed. Stormwater Awareness Week may be ending, but caring for our water never stops.
Over the past week, we've explored how rain carries pollutants, why storm drains matter, and how simple choices at home can help protect our waterways.

Now it's your turn!
Here are some action items you might consider:
- Keep litter and debris out of storm drains.
- Plant native species or explore a rain garden.
- Pick up pet waste.
- Reduce unnecessary chemical use.
- Join a local cleanup or educational program, and encourage a friend to come along.
Every action makes a difference, especially when we take them together.

The Little Miami Watershed Network promotes stewardship, facilitates communication, and builds partnerships across the watershed. We are here to help you advocate, take action, and make connections across the region to help keep water safe, clean, and accessible.

We all live upstream of someone.
The Little Miami River connects communities, neighborhoods, farms, parks, and streams across our watershed across 11 counties from Clark County to the Ohio River. Water doesn't stop at a property line or a community boundary.
What washes off a driveway in one neighborhood can affect a creek downstream. What happens in our headwaters can influence the river as it flows through our communities.
That's why protecting the Little Miami River takes all of us.
Whether you're taking action in your own neighborhood by picking up litter, planting native vegetation, reducing fertilizer use, advocating or educating at local meetings, or helping at a local cleanup, your actions matter.
The Little Miami Watershed Network brings people together to protect the waterways we share.
Your water. Your community. Your future.

A healthy yard can help create a healthy watershed.
When rain falls on surfaces like pavement and rooftops, it runs off quickly instead of soaking into the ground. Additionally, what we put on our lawns, gardens, and sidewalks matters. Rain can carry excess fertilizer, pollutants, pesticides, and pet waste into storm drains and nearby streams.
Here are a few ways we like to share that should ease your mind:
- Use fertilizers only when needed, and follow the label directions.
- Pick up after your pets and dispose of waste in the trash.
- Plant native flowers, grasses, and trees which have deep roots to slow and soak up rain.
- Consider a rain garden to capture runoff and even direct your downspouts into the area to keep it in the ground and off the street.
These simple changes can help reduce runoff, support local wildlife, and make your yard part of the solution. Every choice we make on land can have an impact on the water downstream.

This week try to take one small step toward a healthier yard and a healthier Little Miami River.

Happy Independence Day! We just wanted to remind everyone that fireworks are a huge part of today's traditions; they also leave A LOT of debris behind. It's not the most glamorous part of the celebration, but the earth will thank you for doing your part tomorrow when the sun comes out. If you are interested in helping clear some of the big displays in the watershed, then keep reading! We are partnering with the City of Kettering, Ohio - Government tomorrow morning at Delco Park 8am-10am then on Monday with the City of Beavercreek at Rotary Park 8am-10am. We have UNBELIEVABLE NEWS! We JUST received news that Jr Naturalist Camp was granted another grant to support this program! We are now able to offer camp at just $20 per camper!

We are unbelievably grateful to James Investment and The Nick and Edna Weller Foundation, who both came through to complete the ask we had to offer camp to kids excited about the chance to spend mornings with us to immerse themselves in nature and the Little Miami River!

We are now able to offer the Jr Naturalist Camp at Glen Helen's "Camp Greene" facility for a minor fee that hopefully will provide access to nature education for anyone who wants to be a part of the fun! We are blown away by the generosity of our sponsors each day, allowing us to continue to provide education for all ages to help advocate for your communities, your water, and your future!
