I feel like after last nights conversation with some of the older scouts I need to print this out and bring it with us to Camp.

End of week Sea Base Update:

The crew is tired, but in high spirits, and ready to head back home. We are under sail back towards dock and will check out later this morning.

The crew has had 4 full days on the ocean. Snorkeled multiple reefs, sailed the Gulf Stream, fished, played cards, listened to Capt Lance’s tall tales at lights out, and enjoying a quick dip in a pool at our mid-week stop. Capt Lance even showed us some real life sunken treasure, pieces of eight from a Spanish war ship.

We saw amazing variety of sea life. Sharks, rays, reef fish, puffer fish, barracuda, and dolphins. We can’t blackfin tuna, black grouper, mackerel, and briefly hooked a marlin. However, for the most part we caught sargassum w**d, which is in rare form this week and fouls the fishing lines.

Upon boarding the Blue Moon, the crew adopted Perry the Pineapple as the crew’s mascot. Unfortunately during a bout of rougher seas, Perry perished. The crew wasted no time in organizing the memorial and reported that the pineapple was delicious.

Our final day at sea culminated with “the feast” where the crew’s chef prepared a smorgasbord in the catamaran’s galley. We had steak, pan fried grouper (fresh caught), Hawaiian bun sausage sliders, cucumber salad, mac and cheese, and chocolate pudding for dessert.

As a finale, the crew literally sailed into the sunset as we approached our anchorage for the night

This just in all the way from Florida!

Mid-week update from our Sea Base crew.

Saturday we arrived without incident in Fort Lauderdale, although our flight was delayed by about an hour leading to a long, long wait at the airport.

Sunday we drove to the Keys and ate a good meal at Islamorada Fish Company, anticipating that we would have limited cooking facilities on the boat. We checked in at 1PM, completed paperwork, gear check, and snorkel check by 3:30, and then waited, and waited, and waited.

It ended up that the boat we were scheduled on had mechanical problems and they were looking for a replacement. We ended up on a 48 foot Luxury Leopard Catamaran.

We’ve now had 2 full days of sailing, fishing, and snorkeling.

Remember and Honor

This Memorial Day, our scouts had the profound honor of conducting a flag ceremony and speaking to remember and respect America's fallen heroes.

Part of the Scout Oath is to do our "duty to country," and today, these young people showed exactly what that means. Watching them handle the colors with such care and reverence gives us great hope for the future.

We don't just enjoy the freedoms we have today; we remember the heavy price paid for them. Thank you everyone in the community who joined us today to look back, remember, and honor the brave.
