It was October 3, 2023 — a day Andrea and her family will never forget.
As a mother of four, Andrea received the call no parent ever wants to hear: her 11-year-old daughter, Briguette, had cancer.
The leukemia diagnosis turned life upside down. Suddenly, the family was navigating doctor visits, hospital stays, work responsibilities, and caring for their three other children — all while trying to process the fear, uncertainty, and emotions that came with a cancer diagnosis. They needed support beyond practical challenges. They needed someone to help their entire family through the journey.
That’s when they turned to us.
Our bilingual social work team and Child Life Specialist ( ) worked alongside Andrea, Briguette, and their family - helping them talk through fears, process difficult emotions, and find hope even during some of their hardest days.
In October 2025, Briguette shared one special wish for her future: to someday “ring the bell” and celebrate the end of treatment.
And in May 2026, that moment finally arrived.
Briguette’s mother, Andrea, shared:
"Thank you for supporting us through some of the most difficult times in our lives. Thanks to you, we are able to persevere and continue moving forward."
To Andrea, Briguette, and their entire family — thank you for trusting us and for sharing your story.
If your family is impacted by cancer and needs support, please know you are not alone. We are here to help. Learn more about our Support4Families program: https://crossroads4hope.org/support4families/
